Job Description

The position provides the management of the Solution Architecture team within Corporate UK, working as part of the global organisation to support and implement a clearly defined strategic roadmap to support the Corporate business vision.

Scottishpower has a variety of technologies, technology platforms, bespoke software applications and packaged applications across all businesses covering traditional Infrastructure and Software IT, emerging Digital IT and Operational Technologies all of which require to be selected, implemented, managed, evolved and retired in a defined and approved manner.

The fundamental objective of this role is to ensure that Scottishpower has a defined Corporate Architecture Model covering all technology platforms and applications which is aligned to the Iberdrola group strategy and at the same time assists all Scottishpower Corporate businesses to deliver on its strategic objectives and business plans.

The role promotes the group Architecture Model through regular technology awareness communications and ensures compliance through solution designs for Corporate business IT projects. Knowledge of Physical Security Architecture would be advantageous to drive ambitious modernisation plans in this area.

What you'll be doing

  • Line Management of the UK Corporate Solution Architecture team and third-party technical consultants working as part of the UK Corporate IT Architecture team
  • Support the definition and implementation of a single integrated function of Management of the Corporate IT Architecture in the Iberdrola Group, to make available the current portfolio of technologies with the most suitable and efficient information
  • Implement, operate and manage the Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) Process to maintain the Corporate IT Architecture Model and ensure its applicability to Corporate business needs and IT strategy
  • Participate in the definition, implementation and evolution of the Corporate Architecture IT strategic model and operation of the Iberdrola Group including IT standards, design patterns and communication plans to assure its adoption and buy-in within Corporate UK
  • Realise the technical design and architecture of the business IT solutions within the UK
  • Contribute to the Iberdrola Corporate Group, a global vision of the state-of-the-art and best practice Corporate architecture, and technological solutions in the Group
  • Coordination of Annual Systems Planning of technology requirements (including high level designs, hardware, software and infrastructure services budget estimates) across all UK Corporate Businesses for input to Group PDS Planning process
  • Alignment with Iberdrola Group technologies and the maintenance of the UK Corporate Technology Blueprint
  • Technology Evangelism - ensuring that technology standards and emerging changes are understood across the Corporate teams
  • Perform IT Governance process to align Corporate Business IT Solutions with approved and compliant standards
  • Support digital transformation across ScottishPower Corporate businesses through the adoption of agile methodologies, management, identification and delivery of Disciplines inline with Digital Transformation programme
  • Ensure IT architectures and associated roadmaps are defined and communicated to all key stakeholders

  • Given the breadth of technologies and applications used across ScottishPower, it is expected that the role holder will have worked in a variety of IT disciplines and will have gained knowledge across most aspects of infrastructure, application and operational disciplines with strong supporting knowledge of (vertical and horizontal) industry applications. Knowledge of Physical Security Architecture would be advantageous to drive ambitious modernisation plans in this area
  • The role holder will be a focal point for information requests and decision-making within IT and advising/defining on specific IT designs. The role holder must, therefore, be adept at prioritising and decision-making in demanding timescales
  • Business understanding of the Energy and Utility market so as to be able to provide solutions to complex business problems for areas of responsibility where analysis of situations requires an in-depth knowledge of organisational objectives
  • Experience of translating complex technical issues into language that delivers effective end results
  • As IT architectures and technologies develop and evolve in ever reducing periods of time, the role holder will be required to update their knowledge and must therefore demonstrate a strong, in-built desire to acquire and retain knowledge about information technology
  • Working within an UK wide and international team, oral and/or written skills in Spanish would be desirable but as a minimum there must be a willingness to learn Spanish

Minimum Criteria

  • Experience of Infrastructure and Application architectures is key from identifying customer requirements, evaluation of required IT solutions and selecting the correct application and technology solution design
  • Ability to feed application technology selections into Architecture Model for use across similar business IT needs
  • Significant IT experience gained from working in a number of application based roles
  • Record of academic achievement, including some form of recognised qualification from further education, such as a degree or diploma, is desirable.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Numerate and able to deal with finances for the purposes of managing budgets or contracts with suppliers
  • Willingness to travel by aircraft internationally on business
  • Must be a proven team player to work, promote and consolidate efficient team working relationships
  • Driving licence
