Responsibilities
We are looking for a detail-oriented and hands-on Financial Accountant to join our European finance team, based in London and reporting directly to the Financial Controller - Europe.
this role supports the day-to-day accounting operations of our entities in Germany and Spain, as well as additional European subsidiaries (UK and Cyprus).
Responsibilities include managing AP/AR, bank reconciliations, employee expenses, and delivering accurate and timely month-end reporting to Group. The role also oversees payroll through external providers, VAT submissions, and VAT audits in collaboration with external accountants and tax advisors.
In addition, the Financial Accountant will support the review of bookkeeping activities across our European subsidiaries, ensuring strong financial controls and compliance in a dynamic, international environment.
- Process purchase invoices and payment runs for the companies in Germany and Spain, ensuring correct coding and accurate postings are made on a timely basis.
- Prepare bank reconciliations for German and Spanish companies. Support monthly reconciliations for the subsidiaries, reviewing bank reconciliations.
- Coordinate German and Spanish payroll, reviewing changes and posting the monthly journals. Prepare monthly payroll reconciliations for Germany and Spain.
- Co-ordinate intercompany management transactions and charges between the group companies, including intercompany loans, management fee invoices.
- Support with group wide finance transformation projects as needed, such as system transitions (assist with the implementation of Priority ERP software in Germany) and improvements.
- Review and help to tidy up vendor postings and book-keeping, ensuring AP open items are up to date and reconciled in each company.
- Review on a monthly basis compliance with a group wide chart of accounts guidance.
- Prepare / review month end working papers for prepayments, fixed assets and other month end journals as needed.
- Prepare / review VAT returns in Germany and Spain, work closely with external accountants. Handle any requests / questions from Tax Authorities.
- Review all local submissions (financial statements, VAT, WHT and Corporation Tax returns) and reconcile them to Priority ERP.
Requirements
- Experience working in a multi-company, multi-currency group environment with significant intercompany transactions, ideally with previous experience working for German business.
- Strong understanding of book-keeping and accounting.
- Extensive experience working in an accounting system, including nominal and subledger review, postings, currency management. Ideally has used the accounting software Priority ERP.
- Experience in managing payroll.
- Fluent in English, knowledge of German is mandatory.
- Any relevant accounting qualification is desirable (AAT, ACA, ACCA etc) but not essential.
