What They Do

Deftpower B.V. is a private cleantech startup focused on developing software for integrating renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy into electric vehicle (EV) charging. Their technology includes an AI-supported SaaS platform and a white-label mobile application that enables smart charging, allowing vehicles to connect with networks, energy markets, and over 2,000 charging point operators across Europe. This allows them to reduce costs by up to 20% through dynamic pricing and prepare for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality (source: cbinsights.com). Deftpower serves a wide range of clients, including e-mobility service providers, charging point operators, car manufacturers, energy suppliers, and grid operators, and has a platform that processes millions of transactions in 10 European countries (source: deftpower.com). Their products include a branded app for drivers that provides access to over 800,000 charging points, a business portal for electricity trading and fraud prevention, and developer APIs compatible with OCPI and ISO15118 protocols (source: deftpower.com).

Projects & Track Record

Deftpower has built an impressive track record by implementing its platform for over 40 clients managing widespread EV charging solutions. A notable project is the ongoing smart charging trial launched on May 15, 2025, in Amsterdam, designed as a potential model for global cities by optimizing grid load and renewable integration (source: cbinsights.com). Collaboration with over 40 EV brands and 2,000+ charging point operators strengthens their market position, although specific client names have not been disclosed (source: deftpower.com). Deftpower's platform is active in 10 European countries, focusing on expansion funded by their recent €12.5 million funding round (source: 4impact.vc).

Recent Developments

In the past two years, Deftpower secured €12.5 million in funding on August 29, 2025, led by Endeit Capital with participation from 4impact capital, Proeza Ventures, Rethink Mobility, and Jan Fredriks, supported by the EU's InvestEU Fund. This funding is intended to drive European expansion and AI enhancements for their platform (source: 4impact.vc). The Amsterdam smart charging trial, which began on May 15, 2025, marks a significant milestone in the practical implementation of their technology (source: cbinsights.com). So far, no acquisitions, mergers, awards, or additional certifications have been reported in the sources from 2024-2025, although CEO Jacob van Zonneveld's previous role in founding Plugsurfing (acquired by Fortum in 2018) highlights the continuity of leadership (source: vehicle-2-grid.eu).

Working at Deftpower

Deftpower currently has approximately 70 employees, growing from just over 50 previously. Roles include software development (API and backend for EV integrations), product management, sales, business development, customer service, and operations within engineering, IT, and cleantech functions in an agile team structure (source: 4impact.vc). The company has offices in Arnhem and Berlin, focusing on growth in EV software amid European expansion (source: deftpower.com). The company culture emphasizes technical excellence, rapid execution, and creating clarity from the chaos of the industry, with values aimed at stakeholder success, both economically and ecologically (source: deftpower.com). Specific benefits are not documented in public sources.

Job Description

At Deftpower, we're shaping the future of electric charging every single day. Our SaaS-platform helps businesses across Europe make charging simpler, smarter and more sustainable. With AI and intelligent software, we make sure charging works seamlessly with the energy grid, creating a greener and more stable system for everyone.

We're growing fast, thanks to a recent major investment, and there's never a dull moment! We're expanding, improving our technology. We hope our team of 85 grows to 125 by the end of this year!

About the team

The team consists of four people, including you. Data has always been part of the Operations team. Both the company and the importance of data have grown fast. That is why data is now becoming its own domain.

The team currently reports directly to the COO. At the same time, we are looking for someone who wants to step up and take ownership of the data domain and grow into the Team Lead role as we scale.

About the role

As our Senior Data Engineer, you don't just build pipelines. You shape how we use data as a company. You set direction, make practical decisions and keep things moving. No endless architecture debates. No overengineering. Just smart, workable solutions that help the business move forward.

We work with large datasets and we run on Azure. And yes, the technical side matters. But what matters more is that you can look at a problem, decide what's good enough and implement it, quite fast.

You'll work with Product, Operations, Engineering, Finance and Commercial teams. You help them prioritise what actually matters. You translate business needs into clear data solutions.

  • You will build and manage ETL and ELT pipelines.
  • You will design scalable and usable data models.
  • You will consolidate data from many internal and external sources.
  • You will support fraud detection, invoicing and operational processes with reliable data.
  • You will create dashboards and insights in Power BI that people actually use.
  • You will guard data quality and make sure releases stay aligned with our data model.
  • You can build simple API integrations/extractions with .net (pre).

What your new colleagues say

Anja, Office Manager ''Everyone is incredibly committed and motivated to make something of Deftpower.''

Wierd, Teamlead Smart Charging "No politics, no unnecessary hierarchy. People say what they think and are honest."

Tim, Operations ''The connection between the charging pole, the car, and our app makes us unique. It's tangible technology anyone can understand.''

Timo, Team Lead "On day 1, after onboarding, you can already deliver something for a customer. You make impact very quickly."

For you

At Deftpower you'll find more than smart technology. You'll find a team that enjoys the ride and takes pride in building something real together. We're ambitious, open and growing fast. We move fast. We make decisions. And we improve every step of the way.

This role is for someone who loves turning complexity into clarity and seeing the impact of their work immediately. As our Senior Data Engineer, you'll take ownership of the data domain and help shape how it grows. As the team expands, this role offers the opportunity to step into a Team Lead position.

To strengthen our team spirit, we host quarterly Deftpower Days (D-Day), where colleagues from Arnhem, Berlin and Sweden come together.

  • Salary range between ???60.000 and ???85.000 per year, depending on experience.
  • Holiday allowance and vacation days in line with Dutch regulations.
  • Pension and long term benefits arranged according to Dutch standards.
  • ???2.000 training budget per year.
  • Choose your own laptop up to ???1.750.
  • Hybrid working, short decision lines and a high level of trust.

About you

We are not looking for someone who overengineers.
We are not looking for someone who disappears into complexity. We are looking for someone who brings their team together, makes a plan, builds and moves on.

You've worked in data engineering or analytics before. You understand data modelling, pipelines and reporting. But more importantly, you know how to make trade-offs. You don't aim for perfect when good and practical gets us further.

  • Comfortable making pragmatic trade-offs and choosing workable solutions over theoretical perfection.
  • Able to prioritise under pressure and decide what truly matters when multiple teams compete for attention.
  • You explain data in a way people understand. You bring structure. And you show natural leadership potential through ownership, clarity and direction rather than hierarchy.
  • You enjoy encouraging and motivating other engineers and see a future for yourself as a team lead as the team continues to grow.
  • You recognise yourself in our values

Our values

Drive You love turning ideas into action. You take ownership, push projects forward and get energy from creating solutions that actually work in the real world.

Earnest You do the right thing, especially when no one's watching. You're respectful, honest and reliable, colleagues know they can count on you.

Forward thinking You're curious and not afraid to try new things. You experiment, learn fast and spot opportunities before others see them coming. Calculated risks? You're in.

Transparency You believe sharing is power. You communicate openly, give constructive feedback and make your work visible so the whole team can grow together.

Apply for the job

This is what you can expect from our hiring process.

After you apply, we review your profile carefully. If there's a match, we'll reach out for a short introduction call. You'll have two conversations after that. One with Christiaan, our current Team Lead Operations who previously led the Data team. And one with Marc Dick, our COO.

If both sides are enthusiastic, we move forward with an offer.

We keep the process clear, personal and focused on getting to know each other properly.
