Flexcity

Company Overview

Flexcity, a subsidiary of Veolia

Brussels, Belgium

2012

Approximately 100 employees (source: linkedin.com). Revenue figures are not specified, but Veolia reported consolidated sales of €45.3 billion in 2023 (source: veolia.com).

What They Do

Flexcity specializes in aggregating electrical flexibility, optimizing demand response and short-term electricity markets through smart grid solutions. This includes the use of batteries, renewable energy sources such as distributed generation and wind power, as well as industrial processes like electrolyzers and electric boilers (power-to-heat). Flexcity does not focus directly on hydrogen or large-scale solar/wind energy development (source: flexcity.energy). Their main products and services include a proprietary platform for connecting, operating, and optimizing assets in markets such as intraday, day-ahead, and secondary reserve services (source: flexcity.energy). Target markets include balancing services and ancillary services in Europe, with clients in various sectors such as water treatment, waste recovery, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) (source: flexcity.energy). Flexcity has distinguished itself as a market leader since 2012, managing over 3 GW of flexible power, equivalent to that of a nuclear power plant, and was the first to innovate in aFRR aggregation in Belgium (source: flexcity.energy).

Projects and Background

Flexcity has completed several notable projects, including its integration into TenneT's aFRR market in the Netherlands in 2023 via Equigy's Crowd Balancing platform, which aggregates batteries and industrial processes for grid balancing (source: equigy.com). In France, the valorization of hundreds of Veolia Water's storage/inertia sites has been implemented over several years, along with the use of Orange's backup batteries since 2017 for demand response (source: flexcity.energy). In Belgium, projects such as the participation of the Aquiris wastewater treatment plant and the Beneo Orafti food site in aFRR have been completed (source: flexcity.energy). Ongoing projects include a BESS optimization in the Netherlands scheduled for January 2025 and the integration of the secondary reserve from Veolia's Lapouyade waste site in France (source: flexcity.energy).

Recent Developments

Over the past two years, Flexcity has announced several partnerships, including a collaboration with enspired for BESS optimization in the Dutch and Belgian markets, with initial contracts secured (source: flexcity.energy). The integration of the secondary reserve from the Lapouyade site in France is also planned for January 2025, marking a first for a waste storage site (source: veolia.com). In 2023, Flexcity successfully prequalified for TenneT's aFRR market in record time, demonstrating its agility and efficiency (source: equigy.com). No major acquisitions or external funding have been reported, with growth primarily driven by integration within Veolia since 2019 (source: flexcity.energy).

Working at Flexcity

Recruitment is active at the Brussels headquarters (Saint-Gilles) for technical and product roles, with no specified remote work options (source: linkedin.com). The company culture emphasizes the agility of a startup with the support of Veolia, innovation at the core of operations, and transparency in processes (source: flexcity.energy). At Flexcity, we help the European power system become smarter, more flexible, and more sustainable by connecting industrial assets (batteries, e-boilers, heat pumps, data centers...) to energy markets.

A subsidiary of Veolia Group, we combine the agility of a scale-up with the stability of a global leader in ecological transformation.

Today, we are accelerating our growth in Belgium and are looking for a Technical Account Manager to support this expansion in a key market: industrial decarbonization.

Job Description

Historically, heat-intensive industries have relied heavily on gas to produce steam and industrial heat. With European climate targets, these uses must evolve, and Power-to-Heat technologies (e-boilers, heat pumps, thermal storage) play a central role in this transition.

At Flexcity, we believe that electrical flexibility is a key lever for this transition. In Belgium, we aim to structure and accelerate this market.

As a Technical Account Manager, you will be at the heart of this effort. You will develop an industrial client portfolio, support their decarbonization projects, and become a trusted partner on their energy challenges.

Reporting to the Head of Growth, your role is organized around three main areas:

Commercial Development (≈60%)

  • Identify, prospect, and sign new industrial clients in Belgium.
  • Manage the entire sales cycle, from first contact to asset onboarding in our portfolio.
  • Represent Flexcity at industry events, conferences, and workshops.

Key Account Management (≈25%)

  • Build long-term relationships with strategic clients, closely collaborating with portfolio and operations teams.
  • Identify cross-sell and up-sell opportunities.
  • Maintain client proximity through regular touchpoints and on-site visits.

Internal Coordination & Pipeline Management (≈15%)

  • Keep a clear and reliable pipeline in the CRM.
  • Be the voice of the client internally, sharing feedback, needs, and opportunities with product, portfolio, and operations teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of our market approach.

Qualifications

Profile

You have proven experience in complex B2B sales within industrial, energy, or technical environments. You enjoy building lasting relationships, navigating ambiguity, and contributing to high-growth organizations.

What You Will Bring

Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • Significant experience (5 years or more) in industrial, energy, utilities, or infrastructure environments.
  • Ability to understand technical challenges and translate them into business value.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience managing complex sales cycles.
  • Fluent in French or Dutch - English.

Personal Qualities

  • Results- and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Enjoyment of fieldwork and market development.
  • Autonomy, proactivity, and sense of responsibility.
  • Genuine interest in energy transition and decarbonization.
  • Comfortable in fast-moving, cross-functional environments.
