Kraftblock

Company Overview

Kraftblock

Sulzbach, Germany

2014

Approximately 50-200 employees (Source: linkedin.com). The company has raised a total of 24.07 million USD in funding rounds, with the latest round amounting to 21.98 million USD (Source: kraftblock.com).

What They Do

Kraftblock specializes in **high-temperature thermal storage systems** designed to capture, store, and release heat for industrial applications (Source: kraftblock.com). The technology operates within a temperature range of 50°C to 1,300°C, enabling it to serve high-temperature industrial processes that have historically relied on fossil fuels (Source: kraftblock.com). The core innovation is a proprietary storage material based on recycled materials that withstands extreme temperatures while remaining durable (Source: kraftblock.com). Unlike battery-based energy storage solutions, Kraftblock's system stores energy directly as heat, which is significantly more efficient for process heat applications in heavy industry (Source: kraftblock.com).

Projects & Track Record

A significant publicly documented project is the **PepsiCo Lay's and Cheetos production facility** in Broek on Langedijk, Netherlands (Source: kraftblock.com). In collaboration with the energy company Eneco, Kraftblock is installing a completely new energy system that will fully replace the current consumption of 4.5 million cubic meters of natural gas annually with renewable energy (Source: kraftblock.com). The first phase involves replacing a 22-megawatt gas boiler, which is expected to reduce emissions by about 50%, with the complete system potentially reducing total site emissions by up to 98% upon completion (Source: kraftblock.com). This represents one of Kraftblock's first significant commercial projects secured in October 2022 (Source: kraftblock.com).

Recent Developments

Recent documented funding activities show that Kraftblock completed a Series B round about two years ago, raising 21.98 million USD (Source: kraftblock.com). This round included 20 million euros from several investors: Finindus, TechEnergy Ventures, Shell Ventures, Future Industry Ventures, A&G, and Moore Strategic Ventures (Source: kraftblock.com). Susanne König, co-founder and CEO, was elected president of the German Association for Energy Storage Systems, highlighting the growing influence of the company in the European energy storage community (Source: kraftblock.com).

Working at Kraftblock

Kraftblock positions itself with a climate-focused mission to decarbonize industrial heat, described as "one of the largest levers for reducing carbon emissions" (Source: kraftblock.com). The organization emphasizes the importance of collaboration, innovation, and coordination within the energy transition community, with leadership actively engaged in industry associations and collaborative projects (Source: kraftblock.com). The company is headquartered in Sulzbach, Germany, and is actively expanding internationally, which may lead to recruitment in European markets and potentially in the USA, Latin America, and East Asia (Source: kraftblock.com).
