What They Do
Elia Grid International (EGI) is an engineering consulting company based in Brussels, specializing in energy transmission solutions. It focuses on consulting for complex challenges related to electrical systems, particularly high-voltage transmission, renewable energy integration, and energy transition infrastructure. EGI does not directly develop solar, wind, storage, or hydrogen technologies but provides multidisciplinary services such as planning and operating electrical systems, designing and digitizing smart grids, as well as asset and operations management (source: rocketreach.co). Target markets include global utilities, transmission operators, governments, and developers in over 20 countries, with customer segments comprising national grid companies and renewable project owners (source: rocketreach.co). EGI stands out by integrating Elia Group's operational knowledge with agile and innovative expertise in developing interconnections and integrating renewables.
Projects and Background
Elia Grid International has completed projects in over 20 countries, leveraging the infrastructure projects of its parent company, such as Belgium's Federal Development Plan 2024-2034, which anticipates growth in electrification with a CAPEX of €9.4 billion in Belgium and €20.7 billion in Germany by 2028 (source: rocketreach.co). Notable projects supported by the parent company include the Ventilus project in Flanders, which selected a route in March 2023 for offshore wind integration, and the Rimière project, which invested €41.6 million in 2023 for new power plant capacity by 2025 (source: investor.eliagroup.eu). EGI is also involved in studies for interconnections like Nemo with the UK, and has key clients such as the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), for which it conducted a study on green hydrogen integration in 2023.
Recent Developments
In 2023, Elia Grid International completed a crucial study for EETC on green hydrogen projects, analyzing a 7.5% equity participation or network fees to support the use of the national grid by renewable energy-powered electrolysis producers (source: cbinsights.com). Elia Group announced its results for the year 2023 on March 6, 2024, reporting investments in the grid of €2,397.2 million and a regulatory asset base of €12.2 billion (source: investor.eliagroup.eu). In November 2023, Marco Nix was appointed interim CFO of Elia Group, and Catherine Vandenborre became interim CEO (source: zoominfo.com).
