In this role, you will serve as lead or supporting counsel on commercial disputes-from inception through resolution-developing litigation strategies that protect SCE's operational, financial, and reputational interests while supporting safe and reliable service to our customers. Responsibilities
- The following job responsibilities are more generalized than the content above and apply to in- house attorneys across different sections of the department covering several specialty areas.
- Serves as Lead Attorney or First Chair on smaller-sized or more discrete legal matters; serves as Second Chair or provides support on significant legal matters.
- Conducts legal research and analysis to help ensure compliance with federal and state laws.
- Drafts legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery requests in routine areas. Supports the management and negotiation of standard business agreements, such as non- disclosure agreements, engagement letters, and third-party service agreements.
- Helps monitor relevant federal, state, and local regulatory developments that may impact SCE.
- Implements the execution, structuring, drafting, reviewing and negotiations of agreements, including identifying legal and business risks and recommending solutions.
- Assists with managing outside counsel retained to support SCE's legal needs.
- Provides effective and timely communications, information, legal advice, status reports and other services to clients and claims on legal and factual issues.
- Implements continuous improvement, transformation efforts and initiatives to improve knowledge management, keeping updated with recent legal and regulatory developments and emerging legal issues.
- Manages a caseload of legal matters and prioritizes tasks to meet deadlines.
- A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.); member of California bar or willing to obtain license.
- Up to three or more years of experience practicing as an attorney.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience handling commercial litigation matters, as attorneys in this role handle a wide range of commercial disputes, including breach of contract, property rights disputes, and business loss claims.
- Experience with depositions, law-and-motion practice, and involvement in trials or arbitrations, as SCE attorneys primarily handle matters in-house while partnering with outside counsel as appropriate. This role provides meaningful opportunities to further develop litigation and courtroom skills through hands-on in-house litigation and collaboration with experienced counsel.
- Excellent written and oral advocacy, including experience drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and business-oriented legal memoranda, and presenting complex issues clearly to internal clients and leadership.
- Ability to manage matters independently, while also working effectively as part of a team and collaborating with senior attorneys, paralegals, and cross-functional business partners.

- This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
