What They Do
Deftpower B.V. is a private cleantech startup focused on developing software for integrating renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy into electric vehicle (EV) charging. Their technology includes an AI-supported SaaS platform and a white-label mobile application that enables smart charging, allowing vehicles to connect with networks, energy markets, and over 2,000 charging point operators across Europe. This allows them to reduce costs by up to 20% through dynamic pricing and prepare for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality (source: cbinsights.com). Deftpower serves a wide range of clients, including e-mobility service providers, charging point operators, car manufacturers, energy suppliers, and grid operators, and has a platform that processes millions of transactions in 10 European countries (source: deftpower.com). Their products include a branded app for drivers that provides access to over 800,000 charging points, a business portal for electricity trading and fraud prevention, and developer APIs compatible with OCPI and ISO15118 protocols (source: deftpower.com).
Projects & Track Record
Deftpower has built an impressive track record by implementing its platform for over 40 clients managing widespread EV charging solutions. A notable project is the ongoing smart charging trial launched on May 15, 2025, in Amsterdam, designed as a potential model for global cities by optimizing grid load and renewable integration (source: cbinsights.com). Collaboration with over 40 EV brands and 2,000+ charging point operators strengthens their market position, although specific client names have not been disclosed (source: deftpower.com). Deftpower's platform is active in 10 European countries, focusing on expansion funded by their recent €12.5 million funding round (source: 4impact.vc).
Recent Developments
In the past two years, Deftpower secured €12.5 million in funding on August 29, 2025, led by Endeit Capital with participation from 4impact capital, Proeza Ventures, Rethink Mobility, and Jan Fredriks, supported by the EU's InvestEU Fund. This funding is intended to drive European expansion and AI enhancements for their platform (source: 4impact.vc). The Amsterdam smart charging trial, which began on May 15, 2025, marks a significant milestone in the practical implementation of their technology (source: cbinsights.com). So far, no acquisitions, mergers, awards, or additional certifications have been reported in the sources from 2024-2025, although CEO Jacob van Zonneveld's previous role in founding Plugsurfing (acquired by Fortum in 2018) highlights the continuity of leadership (source: vehicle-2-grid.eu).
Working at Deftpower
Deftpower currently has approximately 70 employees, growing from just over 50 previously. Roles include software development (API and backend for EV integrations), product management, sales, business development, customer service, and operations within engineering, IT, and cleantech functions in an agile team structure (source: 4impact.vc). The company has offices in Arnhem and Berlin, focusing on growth in EV software amid European expansion (source: deftpower.com). The company culture emphasizes technical excellence, rapid execution, and creating clarity from the chaos of the industry, with values aimed at stakeholder success, both economically and ecologically (source: deftpower.com). Job Description
At Deftpower, we're shaping the future of electric charging every single day. Our SaaS-platform helps businesses across Europe make charging simpler, smarter and more sustainable. With AI and intelligent software, we make sure charging works seamlessly with the energy grid, creating a greener and more stable system for everyone.
We're growing fast, thanks to a recent major investment, and there's never a dull moment! We're expanding, improving our technology. We hope our team of 85 grows to 125 by the end of this year!
About the team
You join our Business Development team, based in Berlin and Arnhem. We work closely with Sales, Product and Operations to identify new opportunities and build strong partnerships across Europe. The focus is on growing the market in a smart and sustainable way, always starting from real client needs.
The team currently consists of five people and is moving quickly towards a more data driven way of working. While Deftpower has four Data Engineers in house, there is no dedicated data support for Business Development yet. This means you will build a lot yourself, from insights to structure, while having the knowledge and support of the wider organisation within reach.
About the role
At Deftpower, we move fast, if you spot something today, there's a good chance you'll steer the business with it tomorrow. As our Data Engineer, you build the pipelines and models that turn data into sharp insights. We're talking terabytes of data, billions of rows, and sources scattered across platforms. You bring it all together, clean it up, and make it usable. From fraud detection to high-stakes decisions that shape our growth, your work matters from day one. You'll collaborate with product, operations, engineering and finance to make sure our data isn't just there, but works for us.
You'll form a strong team with Michael (Business Development Manager) and Wierd (Team Lead Smart Charging). Together, you'll combine your skills and insights to deliver real impact to the product and keep our data infrastructure running smoothly.
- Build and manage ETL/ELT pipelines;
- Work with Azure SQL and other Microsoft Azure tools;
- Combine data from many different internal and external sources;
- Design scalable, reliable data models;
- Support fraud detection and other critical use cases;
- Create dashboards and actionable insights in Power BI;
- Monitor data quality and enable high-impact decision making.
For you
At Deftpower you'll find more than smart technology. You'll find a team that enjoys the ride and takes pride in building something real together. Colleagues describe Deftpower as ambitious, open and energetic, with enough movement and change to keep things exciting. We are growing fast, learning as we go and improving every step of the way.
This role is tailor-made for problem solvers who thrive on turning complexity into clarity and love seeing the impact of their work every day. At Deftpower, you'll join a rapidly scaling tech company where innovation isn't just a buzzword, it's how we stay ahead in a fast-moving, ever-changing market.
If you enjoy working hands-on in a dynamic environment that pushes boundaries and moves fast, this is your chance to help shape the future of electric mobility.
To strengthen our team spirit, we host quarterly Deftpower Days (D-Day), where our teams from Arnhem, Berlin and Sweden come together for a great time.
- Salary range between ???70.000 and ???85.000 per year, depending on experience.
- Holiday allowance and vacation days in line with local regulations.
- Pension and long term benefits arranged according to local standards.
- ???2.000 training budget per year to keep learning and growing.
- Choose your own laptop to work with, up to ???1.750.
- A flexible setup with hybrid working, short decision lines and a high level of trust.
About you
You have a strong interest in mobility, energy or EV charging. You are not afraid to dive into complex datasets and advise colleagues who know a lot about Smart Charging. You feel comfortable challenging assumptions, asking questions and standing your ground when insights matter.
- You have professional experience in a data engineering or data analyst role and are able to work independently.
- You are confident in SQL, data modelling and building pipelines in Azure and Python.
- You know how to turn data into clear dashboards and reports, especially in Power BI.
- You work in a structured way, pay attention to detail and care about getting things right.
- You feel comfortable working with different teams and explaining data in plain language.
- You recognise yourself in our values: Drive, Earnest, Forward thinking and Transparency.
Hiring Process
This is what you can expect from our hiring process.
After you apply, Wierd, our Team Lead Smart Charging, will review your profile. If your experience matches what we are looking for, he will reach out for an introduction. In this first conversation we explore the basics. Your experience, your motivation and whether there is a potential match on both sides.
If that conversation is positive, you will work on a short assessment. You will present this to part of the team, including our COO, Marc Dics. During this meeting you will also get the chance to meet several people you would be working with. If timing allows, we will make sure you meet the wider team as well.
If both sides are enthusiastic, we move forward with an offer.
We keep the process clear, personal and focused on getting to know each other properly.
