Company Overview

Ocean Energy Europe

Brussels, Belgium

2006

Approximately 10 employees (source: linkedin.com).

What They Do

Ocean Energy Europe (OEE) is an industry association and advocacy organization representing the ocean energy sector. Rather than developing or manufacturing technologies, OEE acts as the voice of the industry, focusing on advancing ocean energy technologies and their commercialization. Ocean energy technologies harness the power of tides and waves, as well as the differences in temperature and salinity of the sea, to generate electricity (source: linkedin.com). OEE primarily focuses on two categories of technologies: marine current energy and wave energy, while also exploring ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC).

Projects and Background

OEE is involved in several EU-funded projects that demonstrate its role in advancing the sector. The **FORESEA** project (Funding Ocean Renewable Energy through Strategic European Action) is a €11 million initiative that helps bring offshore renewable energy technologies to market by providing free access to the testing center network in Northwest Europe (source: linkedin.com). Additionally, the **Ocean DEMO** project, valued at €13 million, specifically targets multi-device ocean energy installations, allowing developers to prove their technology at full commercial scale. These projects illustrate OEE's commitment to supporting the development and demonstration of ocean energy technologies.

Recent Developments

Recently, the European Commission designated ocean energy as one of two technologies that count towards the EU's innovative renewables target, urging member states to allocate 5% of new renewable capacity to innovative technologies by 2030 (source: linkedin.com). Furthermore, the ocean energy sector is projected to reach a value of €53 billion per year by 2050, potentially creating 400,000 jobs in Europe, highlighting the growing importance of this sector in the European energy landscape.

Working at Ocean Energy Europe

Ocean Energy Europe offers career opportunities primarily in the fields of policy, communications, and industry coordination. Roles include policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and event management, allowing employees to participate in high-level policy discussions and strategic initiatives in the renewable energy sector. The headquarters in Brussels provides direct access to European institutional decision-making centers, which is crucial for OEE's advocacy mission (source: linkedin.com).
