What They Do
Agora Energiewende is a non-profit think tank focused on developing scientifically grounded and politically feasible strategies for the energy transition in Germany. The organization concentrates on the decarbonization of the energy and building sectors, creating strategies for renewable energy systems, flexibility options, and phasing out fossil fuels. Their interdisciplinary expertise spans technical, economic, and political fields to address comprehensive energy and climate policy (Source: agora-energiewende.org). They provide services such as policy proposals and reports, including the document "Energy Transition 2030: The Big Picture," which sets targets like 80% renewable electricity by 2030 and a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% compared to 1990.
Projects & Track Record
Although Agora Energiewende primarily operates as a think tank without traditional infrastructure projects, the organization has a strong track record of conducting influential studies and policy work. Notable projects include the economic analysis of the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant in the United Kingdom from 2016 and the 2018 study "Cross-Border Renewables Cooperation," which addresses the costs of wind energy in the PENTA region. Current efforts include international modeling via PyPSA-SPICE and specific policy support for decarbonization in Thailand (Source: securesustain.org).
Recent Developments
In the past two years, Agora Energiewende has announced several significant developments, including the launch of the PyPSA-SPICE open-source model builder on December 8, 2025, aimed at enabling transparent energy planning. Additionally, the EU Grids Package was welcomed on December 10, 2025, to steer investments. The organization has also hosted events such as the webinar "From Oven to Future: Enabling Low-Carbon Steel Production in Southeast Asia" on July 24, 2025 (Source: agora-energiewende.org).
Working There
Agora Energiewende employs an interdisciplinary team of over 120 to 180 staff in various roles, including technical, economic, political, and communication-related positions. The offices in Berlin, Brussels, and Bangkok are active centers hiring within the Agora think tank structure. The corporate culture emphasizes independence from parties, intensive stakeholder dialogues, and a non-profit mission serving climate and the common good (Source: agora-energiewende.org).

Job Description
Agora's Data and Modelling Team leads the development of database services, analytical and modelling tools, as well as visualisation products for Agora Energiewende, Agora Industry, and Agora Agriculture. It is a growing cross-organisational team working at the intersection of our sectorial, policy and communication work in all geographies (Germany, EU, international).
As Agora Think Tanks, we develop politically feasible and science-based strategies and solutions for the transformation to climate neutrality. Along with overarching questions of climate policy, the successful transformation to a climate-neutral energy system is at the core of our work. With around 180 employees at four locations worldwide, we advise decision-makers and facilitate a productive exchange of ideas. Because no single institution can tackle the complexity of the transition from fossil fuels to renewables and to climate neutrality, we cultivate an intensive dialogue with stakeholders from politics, civil society, the economy, and science. Additionally, we are active in a global network of think tanks promoting the net-zero transition. As a non-profit organisation we act independently and free from economic or party-political interests.
