Company Overview

Othersphere

California, United States

Employee count is not publicly disclosed, and no revenue figures are available for 2023 or later (source: newswire.ca).

What They Do

Othersphere is a private technology startup that focuses on optimizing energy infrastructure site selection through its innovative SaaS platform. Founded by CEO Robert Murphy, the company leverages a proprietary spatial economics platform that indexes global data at sub-1 km² resolution across over 180 million locations worldwide. This platform integrates more than 50 layers of commodity, market, human, and environmental variables, allowing for comprehensive analysis and decision-making (source: othersphere.io). The technology enables users to model project economics, emissions, and local fit for sustainable infrastructure, making it particularly valuable for sectors like hydrogen production and data centers (source: othersphere.io). By allowing users to upload custom Excel-based economic models, Othersphere facilitates GPU-accelerated optimization and AI-driven global searches, positioning itself as a leader in the energy tech space (source: othersphere.io).

Projects & Track Record

As a software platform, Othersphere does not engage in the direct development of infrastructure projects, which means there are no completed projects with specific names, locations, or capacities documented. Instead, the company supports faster deployment of user projects by identifying optimal sites for development. Currently, Othersphere is in the closed beta testing phase for its Explorer and Waypoint products, which are designed to enhance user experience and project efficiency (source: othersphere.io). The platform's geographic presence is global, thanks to its extensive dataset, and it aims to assist project developers, financiers, and operators in minimizing risks and optimizing yields (source: othersphere.io).

Recent Developments

In the past two years, Othersphere has made significant strides, including securing a $3 million seed funding round in 2024 led by Active Impact Investments. This funding is aimed at launching its location optimization platform and facilitating team growth (source: newswire.ca). Additionally, on September 9, 2025, Othersphere joined Google's AI for Energy program, which will help accelerate the development of report-based AI products for hydrogen and energy-intensive infrastructure (source: prweb.com). These developments highlight Othersphere's commitment to innovation and its strategic partnerships aimed at enhancing its product offerings.

Working There

Othersphere is actively hiring for various roles that support its software platform, including positions in engineering, development, data science, and product teams. The company emphasizes the importance of building a strong team to drive its mission forward, particularly following its recent funding round (source: newswire.ca). Most hiring is likely to occur at its headquarters in Victoria, British Columbia, although specific remote work options or other office locations have not been detailed (source: othersphere.io). The company culture is centered around exploring complex energy systems for sustainable prosperity, with a focus on profitability and emissions reduction, reflecting the leadership's background in both oil/gas and renewables (source: othersphere.io).

Job Description

Othersphere identifies the most profitable and sustainable locations for deployment of energy-intensive infrastructure. Our software platform tightly integrates energy systems modeling, geospatial analytics, and generative AI to enable:

  • Faster deployment of more beneficial projects
  • Democratized access to critical market insights
  • Reduced long-term GHG emissions trajectories

Our early development funding and support was provided by Breakthrough Energy and Google for Startups, followed by equity investment from leading climate-focused investors. Othersphere is incorporated as a Benefit Company, and we seek candidates with a personal commitment to fairness, humility, curiosity, and passion for positive impact-values that are central to our mission. We are committed to representation and inclusion, and we welcome applicants with diverse perspectives and backgrounds.

Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Diligence Manager with 4+ years of relevant experience. You will work closely with everyone on our cross-functional team, with focus on:

  • Analysis review & validation: Pressure-testing and validating Othersphere's AI-generated infrastructure site diligence assessments (see here for an example excerpt). You will critically evaluate arguments, spot logical inconsistencies, and ensure the draft conclusions meet a high standard of commercial and technical accuracy.
  • Process scaling: As our AI capabilities advance and report generation time drops further, this role is expected to scale. You will help build out, train, and eventually manage a team of junior reviewers.
  • Strategic expansion: Over time, your work could also broaden into the development and production of new sector coverage and new product lines.

This is a unique role working on a groundbreaking product, and so in turn we recognize there is no singular pattern for an ideal candidate. Succeeding in this role will likely require a mixture of analytical background in energy/industry, critical mindset, and endless curiosity. We'd be excited to hear from you if that sounds like a fit.

Our responsibilities

We seek to build and maintain an exciting and inclusive working culture where you feel safe expressing who you are, making you feel valued and respected, and giving you an opportunity to thrive. In service of meeting these goals, we provide:

  • Freedom to make decisions on both day-to-day deliverables and long-term direction
  • The tools you need to get the job done
  • A friendly and highly collaborative team who will work with you to answer questions and help get you un-blocked as quickly as possible
  • We maintain core team overlap hours between 8am and 11am PT, but outside of that you are welcome to manage your day as you see fit
  • Regular feedback to help you grow in your role as quickly as possible, and a team of colleagues always open to hearing your feedback and insights

Compensation and benefits

Othersphere provides competitive compensation and company equity commensurate with experience, and an excellent benefits package. The salary range for this role is $115,000 to $150,000 Canadian dollars. This is envisioned as a full-time employee role, but contract-to-hire pathways can also be explored.

We are a remote-first organization headquartered in British Columbia, Canada, with team members in Europe and a global customer base. For this role we are considering applicants from around the globe, however we have moderate preference for candidates in Canada, particularly in eastern time zones.
