Raleigh, NC, United States

Employee count is currently unknown, and revenue figures from 2023 or later are not available.

What They Do

The Southeastern Wind Coalition (SEWC) is dedicated to advancing wind energy in the southeastern United States, focusing on both offshore and land-based wind development (source: sewind.org). The organization functions primarily as an industry advocacy and development organization rather than a direct energy producer or technology developer. SEWC's mission is to promote net economic benefits to the industry, utilities, ratepayers, and citizens in the Southeast, thereby fostering a sustainable energy future.

In the offshore wind segment, SEWC highlights that Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia possess 82% of the East Coast's offshore wind resource in shallow waters, which is a significant opportunity for development (source: sewind.org). The coalition emphasizes the unique microclimate created by the Gulf Stream's proximity, which results in optimal wind speeds for commercial-scale offshore wind projects. This strategic focus positions the Southeast as a key player in the national offshore wind landscape.

For land-based wind, SEWC tracks the emerging market in the region, noting that the 208 MW Amazon Wind Farm US East, developed by Avangrid Renewables in 2017, marked the Southeast's entry into commercial-scale land-based wind (source: sewind.org). Innovations such as taller towers and longer blades are enabling developers to capture stronger winds at higher altitudes, making new projects feasible across the region.

Projects & Track Record

One of the most notable projects associated with the Southeastern Wind Coalition is the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project, which is currently under construction by Dominion Energy and is located 27 miles off the coast of Virginia. This project is recognized as the largest offshore wind project in the United States and serves as a flagship initiative within the region that SEWC advocates for (source: sewind.org). Additionally, the Amazon Wind Farm US East, with a capacity of 208 MW, represents a significant milestone for the Southeast's entry into commercial-scale land-based wind energy, showcasing the potential for growth in this sector.

SEWC also maintains a Southeast Wind Energy Supply Chain Map, which catalogs regional industry capabilities and helps to position the region for wind energy growth (source: sewind.org). This mapping effort is crucial for identifying opportunities and fostering collaboration among stakeholders in the wind energy sector.
