Approximately 5,500 employees and a revenue of €3 billion in 2023 (source: enexis.nl).
What They Do
Enexis primarily focuses on network infrastructure as a core technology, managing and developing low and medium voltage electricity networks and low-pressure gas distribution. The company increasingly emphasizes smart grid automation, distribution automation, smart meters, and the integration of renewable energy sources such as decentralized solar energy and onshore wind energy. Their services include network installation, maintenance, metering for millions of customers, and managing public lighting, with a strong focus on supporting the energy transition in the Netherlands (source: bitscale.ai).
Projects & Track Record
Enexis has an impressive track record in facilitating the integration of renewable energy in its regions. This includes supporting SDE+ subsidy applicants for solar and wind energy through grid connections in Groningen, Drenthe, and Overijssel. The company is working on ongoing grid enhancements to achieve 70% renewable electricity by 2030, in line with the Dutch Climate Agreement. Key projects include accelerated investments for decarbonization, such as the rollout of smart meters and the development of heat networks through Enpuls (source: enexisgroep.com).
Recent Developments
In the past two years, Enexis received a negative credit outlook from S&P on May 23, 2025, due to rising investment pressure from the energy transition. Despite this pressure, regulated returns remain stable under the ACM framework for 2022-2026. The company has not reported any major acquisitions or mergers, but potential government investments are on the horizon (source: enexisgroep.nl).
Working at Enexis
Enexis offers a wide range of positions, including installation and maintenance technicians, engineers for electricity and gas networks, and IT and digital roles such as low-code developers. The company has nearly 900 employees in IT and business value chains focusing on agile sprints for maintenance and incidents. The culture at Enexis emphasizes safety as a top priority, with strict standards and monitoring, and encourages collaboration with stakeholders (source: mendix.com).

Job Description
The energy transition demands reliable, scalable IT solutions. As a Central Quality Assurance & Test Lead Engineer within the Q4X team, you enable Enexis to build quality in from the start rather than inspecting it afterwards. You work across the organization, coach teams, and connect strategy to execution so we deliver value faster without compromising reliability.
You view quality as an integral part of the development process: something to design, build, and own. You lead by example-hands-on where needed, strategic where it has the most impact.
Job Requirements
- Build organization-wide capability rather than acting as a central "quality gatekeeper."
- Define and develop organization-wide Quality & Test Engineering principles.
- Help teams embed built-in quality and shift-left testing.
- Design and support end-to-end quality and testing approaches for software and integrations.
- Enable and scale test automation across teams and domains.
- Introduce and safeguard quality and confidence in CI/CD pipelines so we know when software is ready for release.
- Advise engineers, System Architects, and RTEs on:
- quality risks and technical debt;
- test strategies in complex integration landscapes.
- Coach teams on:
- test automation practices;
- engineering-driven quality decisions;
- requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Maintain a helicopter view across multiple teams, identifying gaps, dependencies, and improvement opportunities.
- Roll up your sleeves and work side by side with teams where needed.
You believe in enablement through practice, not extra control layers, and work according to:
- Do it yourself: demonstrate good practice by doing it.
- Do it together: actively collaborate with teams and engineers.
- Enable & scale: help teams take ownership and continuously improve.
Your Profile
- At least 5 years' experience in software engineering, quality engineering, and test automation.
- Experience working across multiple teams or domains in complex environments.
- Proven ability to combine hands-on delivery with strategic oversight.
Test Automation and Tooling
- Extensive experience with modern test automation tools, such as:
- Playwright;
- Robot Framework;
- API and integration testing tools.
- Experience with enterprise or model-based tooling (e.g., Tosca).
- Pragmatic positioning of tooling based on context, architecture, and team maturity.
- Experience integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines.
- Tooling is a means to support organization-wide goals-not an end in itself.
Methods and Ways of Working
- Experience with Agile, Scrum, and DevOps.
- Familiar with TDD, BDD, and Continuous Delivery.
- Comfortable with shift-left principles and built-in quality.
Nice to Have
- Understanding of data engineering concepts, such as:
- data pipelines and data integrations;
- data quality and data validation.
Personal
- Strong communicator and coach; able to influence without formal authority.
- Able to switch between detail and big-picture views.
- Credible, pragmatic, and engineering-driven.
- Curious, analytical, and committed to continuous learning and improvement.
Team & Culture
Your colleagues in the Q4X team, including the Lead Quality Engineering, a test consultant, and several test engineers who operate across multiple run and change value streams. Q4X is a central Quality & Test Engineering team within Enexis Digital, focused on organization-wide, high-impact initiatives.
We help teams structurally build in quality by providing direction, sharing expertise, and developing capability. We work strategically where needed and hands-on where it matters, always focused on sustainable quality, reliability, and agility.
