What They Do
Smart Energies Group specializes in photovoltaics, electricity storage including battery energy storage systems (BESS), local distribution systems (LDS), and power balancing solutions. The company develops, finances, builds, and operates solar power plants primarily on rooftops, park shelters, and small degraded sites, focusing on medium-sized projects that ensure high local acceptance and provide benefits to landowners such as farmers and local authorities (source: smart-energies.eu; smartenergies.cz). Their services include tailor-made energy solutions designed to enhance project efficiency and reduce CAPEX for real estate developers, covering design, local distribution, battery storage, and power balancing. Currently, they have 10 LDS projects in preparation for completion by 2027, with over 55 GWh distributed and sold at more than 1,000 supply points, alongside 12 PBS projects in preparation and 2 already sold. Their power balancing capacity includes 27 MW available in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, with an additional 14 MW sold and over 150 MW planned in upcoming BESS projects (source: smartenergies.cz).
Projects & Track Record
Smart Energies Group has commissioned over 750 solar sites with a total capacity exceeding 200 MWp and maintains a portfolio of more than 1,000 projects mainly across France, Italy, and Greece, with recent expansion into battery storage. Notable achievements include over 900 power plants under construction and operation with a cumulative capacity of 250 MWp. The company completed the first rooftop solar power plant in France in 2013 and expanded into Italy in 2018 and Greece in 2022. They have successfully implemented four operational LDS projects for clients such as shopping centres, aligning with ESG goals. A key project includes preparing the largest Tesla charging hub in the Czech Republic at Čestlice Shopping Centre, demonstrating their capability to deliver technically challenging local distribution systems without operational interruptions (source: smart-energies.eu; smartenergies.cz).
Recent Developments
In 2024, Swen Capital and Plenium Capital acquired stakes in Smart Energies Group, while RGreen Invest renewed its support, building on its initial investment in 2022 which coincided with the launch of the storage business and the first Greek solar plant. The company continues to expand its presence in Central Europe, particularly in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, with ongoing preparations for 10 LDS and 12 PBS projects and over 150 MW in upcoming BESS projects. These developments underscore the company’s commitment to growth in energy storage and local distribution systems, supported by strong partnerships and a multidisciplinary expert team (source: smart-energies.eu).
Working There
Smart Energies Group recruits across a broad range of roles including regional developers who prospect solar rooftops, park shelters, and battery storage opportunities with farmers, local authorities, and commercial real estate clients. Project managers oversee diagnostics, solar potential analysis, design, administrative procedures, permits, grid connections, equipment selection, and subcontractor coordination. Construction managers and technical supervisors ensure compliance and standards adherence for BESS, LDS, and power facilities. Site and asset managers focus on technical and administrative supervision and operational performance optimization. Corporate functions include legal, HR, communications, accounting, controlling, and finance, with a particular need for experienced accountants in reporting and financial management. The company operates primarily from its Prague headquarters, fostering a culture of partnership through employee share ownership programs and a growing team of professionals (source: smartenergies.cz; smart-energies.eu).

Job Description
We are looking for a senior electrical engineer to join our broader technical team. The role involves close cooperation with Business Development, the licensing manager (ERO/OTE/registration), the head of implementation, metrology, and the control room. You will attend WIP meetings, lead or support change management, prepare design documentation at all stages and energy balance calculations, and address network elements, including e-mobility.
What you will be doing with us
- Technical leadership of LDS and on-site electrical system design, from concept to commissioning.
- Complete zoning, permitting, detailed design, construction, and as-built documentation, including checks for compliance with legislation (ČSN, EN/IEC, PNE), distributor/ERÚ/OTE requirements, and fire detection and alarm systems and other fire safety systems.
- Connectivity studies, load-flow, short-circuit ratios, protection selectivity, protection settings, earthing and lightning protection, protection coordination, including FRT/anti-islanding for generation sources.
- Integration of generation sources (photovoltaics, BESS, CHP), high-density e-mobility, peak management, and energy balances (import/export, island mode/balancing services).
- Technical supervision and design oversight on site, FAT/SAT, functional tests (including network switching, backup, and fire safety interfaces).
- Change management: proposing and approving changes, and assessing impacts on CAPEX/OPEX and the schedule.
- Calculations and BOQ - technical specifications for tenders, bid evaluation, TCO.
- Communication with distributors (ČEZ DI/EGD/PRE), network operators, and relevant authorities (Fire and Rescue Service, etc.).
- Cooperation with the licensing manager (generation plant/LDS licences, metering, OTE registration) and with operations (SCADA/AMM, SLA).
What we would like to see from you
- Secondary or higher education in electrical engineering + experience of VN/NN/LDS design and the connection of loads/generation sources.
- Professional competence pursuant to Government Regulation No 194/2022 (authorised for independent activity/management of activities and design).
- Demonstrable experience of working with studies and calculations (load-flow, short circuit, selectivity), protection and coordination, and transformer substation/HV/LV design.
- Knowledge of the standards and procedures of the main distribution system operators - ČEZ/EGD/PRE (technical conditions, connection requirements).
- Knowledge of SCADA/AMM, EMS/DR, integration of PV/BESS/CHP, use of tools such as ETAP/DIgSILENT PowerFactory (or equivalent), and experience of ERÚ/OTE requirements is an advantage.
What you will use every day
- Tools: AutoCAD/EPLAN required; Excel for budgets/BOQ; calculation tools (ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, CYMCAP), and basic BIM coordination in Revit an advantage.
- Processes: WIP meetings (project/technical), change management, documentation versioning, FAT/SAT and functional test checklists.
What we offer
- Real impact: you design networks that we build and operate ourselves (rapid feedback from operations).
- An investment environment without corporate barriers - quick decision-making and the opportunity to influence CAPEX/OPEX and technical standards.
- Competitive remuneration based on seniority, plus a performance component.
- Opportunity to lead signature projects (LDS for shopping centres/logistics, integration of generation sources, high-load e-mobility).
- Offices in the centre of Prague (near the main railway station).
- Full-time employment relationship, 25 days of annual leave + 3 sick days. Occasional home office by agreement.
- MultiSport card paid for by your employer and refreshments at the workplaces.
