About the role

Regulatory & Compliance Lead - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract - Melbourne Based

Join AGL's Regulatory, Compliance & Risk Transformation team, supporting the Retail Transformation Program as it modernises the Customer Markets division. In this role, you'll lead the regulatory and compliance approach for the program, ensuring large-scale transformation is delivered at pace while remaining aligned with AGL's regulatory obligations and risk frameworks.

Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you'll coordinate and track regulatory changes that impact the program, proactively managing risks and ensuring requirements are embedded into transformation initiatives from the outset. You'll also drive a simplification agenda-making complex regulatory requirements easier for leaders and delivery teams to understand and act on.

Reporting to the Regulatory, Compliance & Risk Transformation Manager, you'll partner with teams across Retail Transformation to ensure compliance is built into AGL's future design, while still enabling innovation that delivers better outcomes for customers.

What you'll be doing

  • Partner with the Retail Transformation program and operational teams to monitor and implement new regulatory obligations, ensuring compliance is embedded across key initiatives.
  • Provide clear, commercially pragmatic regulatory advice that highlights risks and enables informed decision-making in a complex regulatory environment.
  • Lead engagement with regulators, including the Australian Energy Regulator and Essential Services Commission of Victoria, coordinating cross-functional responses to information requests and regulatory matters.
  • Support major business initiatives-such as product development, marketing campaigns, external communications and sales processes-by providing practical, solutions-focused regulatory guidance.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team while fostering a strong compliance culture where risks are openly discussed, learnings are shared, and best practice is embedded across the program.

About you

  • Previous demonstrated experience within a regulatory and compliance role within the retail energy industry.
  • Knowledge of retail energy and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong project management skills, including ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Highly pro-active self-starter, with the ability to self- manage and prioritise.
  • Aware of best practices in regulatory compliance.
