About the Role
Are you passionate about leading hardware compliance, testing, and certification within in a highly regulated, innovation-driven industry?
We are seeking an experienced Hardware Quality Engineer, to join our Mascot team on a full-time basis, to lead hardware compliance, component lifecycle management, and reliability across our device portfolio. This role plays a critical part in ensuring our products meet stringent regulatory and quality standards across Australia, New Zealand, and broader APAC markets.
As a technical leader, you will drive compliance strategies, oversee testing and certification activities, and guide a high-performing Hardware Quality Assurance team. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, external test labs, and regulatory bodies to deliver safe, reliable, and market-ready hardware products.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance, Quality & Execution
- Lead all hardware compliance and certification activities, including regulatory testing and validation.
- Manage relationships with external test houses and certification vendors.
- Oversee submissions and liaison with the National Measurement Institute (NMI) and other regulatory bodies.
- Develop and execute hardware test strategies and reliability plans.
- Ensure devices meet regulatory standards before certification approval.
- Review outcomes, troubleshoot issues, and provide final technical sign-off.
- Drive continuous improvement of hardware quality, testing processes, and reliability frameworks.
- Champion a 'Quality First' culture across product development teams.
Collaboration & Delivery
- Partner with R&D, Product Management, and PMO teams to deliver compliant, high-quality products.
- Support product development lifecycle activities, from design validation through to production readiness.
- Coordinate with Supply Chain to ensure smooth transition into manufacturing.
- Align stakeholders on hardware quality and compliance requirements.
- Manage and optimise external partnerships and test lab performance.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Hardware Quality Assurance (HQA) team.
- Provide hands-on oversight of compliance and validation activities.
- Ensure early identification of risks through pre-compliance validation.
- Maintain strong leadership presence for real-time decision-making and escalation.
- Build team capability, engagement, and continuous skills development.
Systems, Metrics & Governance
- Manage hardware lifecycle data in SAP PLM systems (BOMs, CAD, documentation).
- Provide subject matter expertise and training on PLM tools.
- Monitor hardware compliance coverage and test completeness, project delivery timelines and budget adherence, component reliability performance, and team capability growth.
About You
- 10 years' experience in R&D and regulatory compliance within the metering or energy industry.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of Australian & New Zealand regulations for industrial metering and embedded radio devices.
- Experience working with international and local metering standards.
- Proven background in hardware reliability testing and compliance frameworks.
- Experience in electronic/electrical hardware product development (highly desirable).
- Deep understanding of hardware compliance and certification processes, component lifecycle management and reliability testing methodologies.
- Familiarity with SAP PLM or similar product lifecycle systems (desirable).
- Strong leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop teams.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to make critical technical decisions.
