The Summer Finance Intern will support Vaisala's fiduciary and risk management work for our employee benefit and insurance programs. This on‑site role in Louisville, CO is ideal for a student interested in investments, risk, and governance for 3 months, in a full-time, paid internship position. The intern will help prepare RFPs for our fiduciary committee and review existing insurance and benefit-related policies to identify gaps and overlaps.

What's Your Role?

Fiduciary, Investment & Governance Projects

  • Collaborate with an external consultant to prepare Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for:
    • Financial advisors / investment consultants
    • Investment and recordkeeping platform
    • 401(k) audit
  • Gather and organize data for RFPs (fees, performance, service levels, governance requirements).
  • Help develop comparison and scoring tools to evaluate vendor responses.
  • Draft summary memos and presentation materials for the fiduciary committee.

Policy, Insurance & Risk Review

  • Collect, organize, and maintain an inventory of existing plans, policies, and insurance coverages (e.g., benefit‑related and corporate policies).
  • Review key terms such as limits, deductibles, exclusions, and service scopes under guidance from the consultant and internal team.
  • Assess existing policies and procedures to identify:
    • Coverage gaps
    • Overlaps or redundancies
    • Inconsistencies across policies or vendors
  • Prepare clear written summaries of findings, including potential risk areas and recommendations.

General Support

  • Support project tracking, documentation, and meeting notes.
  • Perform light quantitative analysis in Excel (e.g., fee and premium comparisons).
  • Help create reusable checklists, matrices, and templates for future policy and vendor reviews.

What Will You Bring?

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in Finance, Business, Law, Accounting, Economics, Investment Management, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills; comfortable working with contracts, policies, and numerical data.
  • Proficiency with Excel and basic data analysis.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to summarize complex information in plain language.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in investments, fiduciary governance, insurance, or corporate risk management.
  • Ability to work on‑site in Louisville, CO for the duration of the internship and to handle confidential information with discretion.
