What They Do
Anaergia specializes in advanced anaerobic digestion technologies that convert organic waste into renewable resources. Their core technology focuses on transforming various organic waste streams, including municipal solid waste (MSW), wastewater, agricultural manure, and food processing residuals, into renewable natural gas (RNG), clean water, and fertilizer. The company utilizes proprietary systems such as the OmnivoreTM high-solids digester, which significantly increases biogas yield, and the Organics Extrusion Press (OREXTM) for efficient separation of wet organics from dry fractions (source: anaergia.com). Anaergia's offerings include equipment packages, operations and maintenance services, and various project delivery models like build-own-operate (BOO) and public-private partnerships (PPP), enabling clients to integrate anaerobic digestion into existing facilities or develop new plants that can turn wastewater treatment into net energy producers (source: biogasworld.com). Their target markets encompass municipal wastewater and MSW sectors, agriculture for manure processing, and food processing industries, all aimed at reducing costs, emissions, and generating revenue from waste (source: anaergia.com). With over 300 patents and a presence in 17 countries, Anaergia positions itself as a leader in scalable, carbon-negative RNG solutions, offering lower lifecycle costs compared to competitors (source: cbinsights.com).
Projects & Track Record
The Rialto Bioenergy Facility in Rialto, California, is one of Anaergia's flagship projects, processing up to 300,000 tons of landfill-diverted waste and biosolids annually. This facility utilizes Anaergia's anaerobic digestion technology to produce approximately 985,000 MMBTU/year of RNG, equivalent to 13 megawatts of clean energy, while also generating Class A fertilizer and renewable electricity. The facility significantly reduces CO2 emissions by 220,000 metric tons per year and injects RNG into SoCalGas pipelines (source: socalgas.com). Additionally, Anaergia operates over 1,600 sites globally, including a biogas plant repowering project in Germany that processes various types of organic waste to enhance combined heat and power (CHP) outputs (source: biogasworld.com). The company is also engaged in ongoing projects, including a C$43.8 million contract for a California biogas renewable power facility and a contract with PepsiCo Mexico Foods to process 50,000 tons/year of organics into biomethane by the end of 2026 (source: biomassmagazine.com). Their client roster includes major players like SoCalGas, Waste Management, and Southern California Edison, showcasing their extensive reach across North America and Europe (source: businesswire.com).
Recent Developments
In recent years, Anaergia has secured significant contracts, including a C$43.8 million agreement to deliver a renewable power facility for a California biogas project, which is set to leverage advanced anaerobic digestion and combined heat and power technologies (source: biomassmagazine.com). Additionally, on December 9, 2025, Anaergia Technologies signed a contract with PepsiCo Mexico Foods to implement high-efficiency digestion and biogas upgrading at a facility in Mexico, which will process 50,000 tons/year of organics into biomethane, significantly reducing CO2 emissions (source: businesswire.com). Furthermore, in May 2025, the company announced a contract with Capwatt for the first of nine new biogas plants in Italy, indicating ongoing expansion and commitment to renewable energy solutions (source: cbinsights.com). While no major acquisitions or funding rounds have been reported post-2023, Anaergia continues to highlight its extensive portfolio of reference facilities and patents, reinforcing its position in the market (source: anaergia.com).
Working There
Anaergia offers a diverse range of roles across various departments, including engineering, construction/project management, operations and maintenance, manufacturing, and research and development. The company is actively hiring at key locations, including its headquarters in Burlington, Ontario, and U.S. sites in California and Johnston, RI, which serve as significant bases for their operations (source: cbinsights.com). The culture at Anaergia emphasizes innovation and collaboration, supported by a robust portfolio of over 300 patents and a commitment to sustainability through replicable projects across 17 countries (source: businesswire.com). While specific employee benefits are not extensively documented, the company's growth phase and multimillion-dollar contracts suggest competitive compensation for technical roles, fostering a dynamic work environment focused on resource recovery and cost reduction (source: anaergia.com).
