Job Description
Strata Clean Energy is seeking an Interconnection Manager - Large Load & Power Planning to lead the planning and execution of grid interconnections for large electrical loads, including data center and advanced load developments. This role is built for a power systems engineer with transmission planning experience ready to take direct ownership of power generation planning and the large-load interconnection process end- to-end - serving as Strata's internal technical lead. This role is at the intersection of power system studies, utility engagement, and power strategy to develop solutions to meet customer needs.
Key Responsibilities
Power System Studies & Technical Leadership
- Own and lead large load power system studies - steady-state, short-circuit, and stability - serving as Strata's internal subject matter expert and primary large load study lead.
- Review study assumptions and results, identify issues, and drive technically defensible mitigation strategies.
- Translate study results into clear, actionable recommendations on interconnection voltage, load phasing, reactive requirements, and system upgrades.
Short- & Long-Term Power Generation Planning
- Develop short-term power strategies to support early or phased energization, including temporary or bridging solutions.
- Lead long-term power planning to support ultimate load build-out, including evaluation of grid supply, on-site generation, storage, or hybrid approaches.
- Support executive decision-making by evaluating tradeoffs across cost, schedule, reliability, and risk.
- Evaluate behind-the-meter and co-located generation options and partner with origination, finance, and legal teams to structure the supporting commercial agreements.
Large Load Interconnection Execution
- Lead large load interconnection projects from early concept through application, utility studies, upgrade scoping, and energization.
- Serve as Strata's primary technical interface with utilities, transmission providers, and ISOs/RTOs for large load integration.
- Own interconnection schedules and milestones as critical-path infrastructure aligned with development and construction timelines.
- Negotiate Large Generator/Load Interconnection Agreements, facility study scopes, network upgrade cost allocation, and in-service milestones with utility and ISO/RTO counterparties.
Utility & Planning Engagement
- Engage utility planning teams on modeling assumptions, study methodologies, and evolving large-load requirements.
- Track and interpret changes to interconnection rules, planning standards, and grid codes impacting large load integration.
- Engage state public utility commissions and stakeholder groups on tariff design, large-load cost allocation, and emerging interconnection rules.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in power systems engineering, transmission planning, interconnection, or large-scale power infrastructure.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience performing and leading power system studies using tools such as PSS®E, PowerWorld, PSLF, or TARA.
- Strong foundational understanding of power systems - fault analysis, load flow, stability, and system protection.
- Strong understanding of utility interconnection processes, HV/MV systems, and grid reliability concepts.
- Ability to translate technical analysis into actionable infrastructure and strategy decisions.
Preferred
- Experience with large loads or data center power systems.
- Experience evaluating on-site generation, energy storage, or microgrid solutions.
- Utility, ISO/RTO, consulting, hyperscaler, or infrastructure developer background.
