Job Description

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Our 350‑strong Mid‑West Energy, Water and Resources (EWR) group supports major clients across the UK, delivering civil engineering solutions across water and wastewater treatment, non‑infrastructure works, network upgrades and AMP8 programmes. As demand grows, we are strengthening our civil non‑infrastructure capabilities across the region.

We work with clients such as Welsh Water, Thames Water and Severn Trent Water, helping them plan, design and deliver projects that improve resilience and sustainability. With a focus on people, excellence, innovation and sustainable outcomes, you will play an important part in our ongoing development.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to contribute to a wide range of multidisciplinary water sector projects. You will support the delivery of high‑quality civil engineering design, work collaboratively within project teams, and apply your technical knowledge across a variety of client portfolios.

This role provides the opportunity to take responsibility for your own design packages, contribute to design coordination, and work closely with engineers, technicians and specialists across the Energy, Water & Resources group. If you are interested in developing broader project coordination or project management skills, there is scope to become involved in programme support, client communication and aspects of commercial and risk discussions.

You will join a friendly, supportive team, with opportunities to deepen your technical expertise or progress into broader delivery responsibilities as your career evolves. Career development is taken seriously at Arup, and you will be encouraged to shape your path in a direction aligned with your strengths and interests.

Is this role right for you?

You will thrive in this role if you can demonstrate:

  • Experience delivering civil engineering design for water companies and/or contractor clients
  • Knowledge of non‑infrastructure projects such as treatment works, drainage, utilities, site civil design and access/earthworks
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng or equivalent), or working towards equivalent standing

Skills & Behaviours:

  • Ability to build positive, long‑term working relationships with clients and internal teams
  • Enjoy supporting and guiding junior colleagues, sharing knowledge and contributing to team development
  • Curiosity and a continuous‑improvement mindset, with a focus on delivering sustainable and value‑led outcomes
  • Strong communication skills, a collaborative approach and a commitment to ethical, high‑quality practice
