Job Description
This role sits within the Product Engineering team, focusing on delivering scalable digital solutions for customer journeys. In the ScottishPower Customer Business, we are launching a dedicated effort to accelerate digital transformation. Data, process, and system understanding are key to reducing customer friction and optimising internal efficiency.
You will act as a techno-functional innovation expert. Your primary mission will be to build agile innovation "pills" rapidly developed, high-impact micro-solutions, prototypes, and automations-while fostering an AI-first culture across our engineering and business units. You will lead the hands-on exploration and scaling of advanced generative AI technologies (including Kiro, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and more) to continuously optimise customer platforms, reshape digital operations, and enhance developer productivity.
What you'll be doing
- Build Innovation "Pills": Rapidly design, prototype, and deliver micro-solutions ("pills") and proof-of-concepts aimed at solving targeted customer service and operational challenges
- Foster AI Adoption: Champion the use of cutting-edge AI tools (such as Kiro, GitHub Copilot, and Claude Code) across the broader development group to drive engineering excellence and foster a culture of open innovation
- Engage with Stakeholders: Collaborate closely with business stakeholders (Customer Services, Complaints, Telephony, and Digital teams) to uncover automation opportunities through structured workshops and discussions.
- End-to-End Delivery: Own the end-to-end delivery of innovation experiments, moving quickly from initial requirement shaping and solution design through development oversight, testing, and pilot deployment
- Optimise Customer Journeys: Leverage AI tools alongside customer and operational data to analyse friction points, reduce contact drivers, and improve overall business outcomes
- Process Engineering: Define and deliver process improvements, intelligent automations, and workflow enhancements across our integrated customer and digital platforms
- Collaborate and Scale: Work closely across Product, Engineering, and Business teams to ensure successful innovation pills are built to be scalable, secure, and aligned with overarching corporate architectures
- Governance & Continuous Improvement: Support continuous improvement, code quality, and ethical governance standards around AI usage within the delivery lifecycle
What you'll bring
- Education: Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar technical field of study
- Solution Architecture: Proven ability to design agile, end-to-end solutions involving multiple technologies and modern cloud ecosystems
- Agile Expertise: Extensive experience working in SCRUM/Agile delivery frameworks
- AI Integration & Prompts: Demonstrated experience in identifying and scaling generative AI use cases, deploying advanced prompt design patterns, and integrating LLM/AI capabilities into business application
- Technical Toolset: Experience with standard modern backend/frontend technologies, API technology, and API service design and optimisation
- Cloud Ecosystems: Strong knowledge of Cloud Architectures and AWS technologies
- Domain Context: Knowledge and understanding of the UK Energy Retail Market or utilities sector (including SMART metering technologies) is highly advantageous
- Mindset: A proactive innovation mindset with a strong drive to challenge existing legacy processes, understand complex business problems, and quickly deliver improvements
- Communication: Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical AI solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Minimum Criteria
- Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Extensive experience leading the delivery of software development projects or rapid prototyping cycles
- Hands-on experience leveraging modern AI developer productivity tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Kiro, or similar automation frameworks) to accelerate development lifecycles
- Experience in defining and delivering AI-driven use cases, including advanced prompt engineering, automation scenarios, and intelligent workflow optimisation
- Experience in designing and integrating API-based architectures and backend enterprise systems
- Strong analytic, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
