Approximately 250 employees (source: ycombinator.com). Revenue doubled in 2024, though exact figures for 2023-2025 are not publicly disclosed as it remains private (source: aerones.com).

What They Do

Aerones specializes in innovative robotics solutions for wind turbine maintenance, inspection, repair, cleaning, and coating. Utilizing a patented ground-controlled winch system, their technology allows for climbing blades and towers, significantly enhancing operational efficiency by enabling tasks to be performed up to four times faster with ten times less idle time compared to traditional methods (source: aerones.com). Their core services encompass a wide range of offerings, including lightning protection system testing, visual and non-destructive inspections, leading edge repairs, painting, ice-phobic coatings, and AI-driven predictive maintenance analytics (source: aerones.com). Aerones targets onshore wind farms globally, with ongoing development of offshore prototypes that aim to achieve significant efficiency gains while reducing the need for vessel use (source: aerones.com). Their clientele includes major operators representing over 50% of global wind capacity, such as NextEra, GE Vernova, Vestas, and Siemens Gamesa, focusing on large-scale wind farm operators across Europe, North America, and South America (source: aerones.com). By leveraging certified robots that can operate in challenging weather conditions, Aerones enhances turbine efficiency, extends asset life, and reduces operational costs by at least 40%, while also halving CO2 emissions during services (source: balticvc.com).

Projects & Track Record

Since its inception in 2018, Aerones has serviced over 10,000 turbines and 30,000 blades across 27-30+ countries, contributing to the generation of an additional 400,000 MWh of clean electricity and preventing the emission of 165,000 tonnes of CO2 since 2020 (source: aerones.com). Notable projects include comprehensive lightning protection system inspections and drainage hole cleaning on 14 turbines at the Red Dirt Wind Plant and 17 turbines at the Thunder Ranch Wind Plant in Oklahoma, USA, for Enel Green Power, which were recognized as operationally and economically successful (source: openinnovability.enel.com). Additionally, Aerones conducted lightning conductivity tests on 100 turbines at the Seymour wind farm in Texas for AREVON, achieving an average of three turbines serviced per day (source: aerones.com). The company is currently engaged in a €6 million Global Framework Agreement with Enel Green Power for the RoBoost Program, which aims to deploy robotized services across its global wind fleet, while also developing offshore prototypes with EU CINEA funding to target a reduction of 6,423,000 tonnes of CO2 (source: cinea.ec.europa.eu). With partnerships including GE Vernova, NextEra, and Vestas, Aerones is expanding its geographic presence and operational capabilities through its new hub in Texas (source: aerones.com). In 2024, the company successfully tested its robotics on offshore turbines, marking a significant milestone in its entry into sea-based maintenance (source: latvia.eu).

Recent Developments

In June 2025, Aerones successfully raised $62 million in an oversubscribed funding round led by Activate Capital and S2G, with participation from Carbon Equity, Overlap Holdings, and existing investors. This funding is aimed at supporting market expansion, AI and R&D initiatives, manufacturing, and service enhancements, following a year in which the company tripled its revenue (source: balticvc.com). In 2024, Aerones not only doubled its revenue but also expanded its operations to a new hub in Dallas, Texas, and appointed Dr. Ashley Crowther as Chief Commercial Officer to enhance turbine reliability expertise (source: aerones.com). In 2023, the company signed a €6 million Global Framework Agreement with Enel Green Power for the deployment of the RoBoost Program across its wind fleet, following a successful $30 million funding round (source: openinnovability.enel.com). Earlier funding rounds included $9 million raised in April 2022, which helped to bolster its operational capabilities (source: ycombinator.com). Significant milestones achieved include servicing over 1,300 turbines by 2022 and obtaining certifications for its robotics compatible with major turbine models (source: youtube.com).

Working There

Aerones is actively hiring across various roles, including robotics engineering, AI and data analytics, manufacturing, field services, sales, and commercial positions. The company's rapid expansion has created numerous opportunities in hardware for inspections and repairs, as well as the development of a new AI-driven customer platform for predictive maintenance (source: aerones.com). The primary hiring focus is on its headquarters in Riga, Latvia, which serves as a Northern Europe hub for inspections, cleaning, coating, and repairs, alongside its operations in Texas, USA, particularly in Dallas, to support U.S. growth (source: aerones.com). The company culture is characterized by rapid scaling and a commitment to workforce development in the clean energy sector, with a focus on short technician training periods compared to traditional roles (source: aerones.com). Job Description

Aerones is a robotics-driven wind turbine maintenance company operating globally across Europe and the US. The full blade service portfolio includes: robotic and drone-based blade inspection, leading edge repair (LER 1-4), ice-phobic coating application, lightning protection system testing and repair, drainage hole cleaning, blade cleaning, and repeated technical checkups.

The company operates a proprietary Inspection Platform managing a large and growing fleet of turbines and blades across hundreds of clients worldwide. The platform supports the full lifecycle of inspection services from anomaly documentation through customer reporting.

This role sits within Blade Repair & Operations Excellence (BROE), part of the Global Operations Excellence function. It interfaces daily with the Operations Management Center and feeds quality data into weekly operational reviews and board-level reporting.

Requirements

  • Degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Composites Technology, or equivalent hands-on experience in blade repair, inspection, and composite structures
  • 3+ years direct experience in wind turbine blade repair, blade inspection, or blade services - ideally gained at an OEM (Nordex, Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, GE, LM Wind Power) or specialist blade service provider
  • Deep technical knowledge of blade damage types and failure modes: erosion, delamination, cracking, disbonding, lightning damage, manufacturing defects - and the corrective repair techniques for each
  • Experience with blade anomaly classification, severity assessment, and damage documentation standards used in commercial wind farm inspections
  • Hands-on experience with leading edge protection materials and/or ice-phobic coatings - application processes, surface preparation techniques, laminate systems, and topcoat products
  • Proven experience with blade QC systems: NCR processes, root cause analysis (5-Why, fishbone), and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) workflows
  • Experience evaluating inspection reports and translating findings into repair recommendations, including scope-of-work definition and cost estimation
  • Strong analytical skills - ability to interpret QC data, identify failure patterns across materials, teams, and sites, and translate into engineering actions

Strong Advantages

  • Experience with blade manufacturing quality processes (e.g., manufacturing defect analysis, production QC, blade mould release) - provides understanding of how factory defects manifest as field repair needs
  • Background in material testing and qualification: mechanical testing, UV/weathering exposure, adhesion pull-off testing, environmental durability, ice-phobic performance testing
  • Experience with Lightning Protection System (LPS) testing, troubleshooting, down conductor repair, or receptor assessment against industry standards (BWE, IEC)
  • Experience with multiple blade types and OEM platforms (GE, SGRE, Vestas, Nordex) - understanding how repair and inspection procedures vary by blade design, composite layup, and coating system
  • Familiarity with robotic or autonomous blade inspection/repair systems and how they change data collection and application technique requirements
  • Rope access certification (IRATA/SPRAT) or deep understanding of uptower work constraints and how they affect inspection and repair quality
  • Experience building or contributing to QC dashboards, inspection databases, anomaly tracking platforms, or blade condition monitoring tools
  • Multi-site or multi-country blade service experience - understanding how climate, blade age, and regional OEM specifications affect inspection findings and repair approaches
