Job Description

NYSERDA works with stakeholders statewide, including residents, business owners, developers, community leaders, local government officials, universities, utilities, investors, entrepreneurs, and more, to develop, invest, and foster conditions that:

Job Overview

The Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager, Residential Technical and Contractor Support in the Integrated Energy Solutions unit has an integral role in the day-to-day implementation of New York State's residential energy efficiency and clean energy programs, including EmPower+, NYSERDA's flagship program serving low-to-moderate income households. The Project Manager will work with a dedicated group of NYSERDA staff and technical assistance providers with a primary focus on the operations of the high-volume, fast-paced EmPower+ program. The Project Manager will, working with the team, take a lead role in coordinating the review and resolution of customer service inquiries about work done through the program and provide contractor support to ensure participating home improvement contractors are working to program specifications, and maintain project records for future program enhancements.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with the Home Modernization Team's contractor and technical assistance group to assist with the review and resolution of customer service inquiries arising from residential energy efficiency and electrification work. This includes:
    • Communication with customers and home improvement contractors participating in NYSERDA's programs
    • Conducting desktop reviews of project work scopes, invoices, and other documentation.
    • Making recommendations to program leadership on project-specific resolutions to customer concerns.
  • Use the knowledge gained through customer concern resolution to make refinements to program processes to enhance the customer experience and improve program compliance by participating home improvement contractors.
  • Participate in residential program operations including technical project review, management of implementation contractors, and management of pilot programs and consultant contracts.
  • Perform Quality Assurance reviews of project documentation to ensure participating contractors are meeting program standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer and contractor interactions.
  • Support implementation of pilots/demonstration projects.
  • Research archived project information, contractor work quality and customer satisfaction survey data and provide updated reports when requested by NYSERDA staff.
  • Work with NYSERDA's Quality & Market Standards Team to review commonly occurring non-conformances identified through the QA/QC process and help determine root causes and solutions.
  • Perform all job responsibilities with respect, fairness, consistency, and inclusion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Project Manager (Salary range: $78,333-$131,298):
    • A Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience in the building science, weatherization, home performance, or related fields;
  • Assistant Project Manager (Salary range: $70,720-$96,764):
    • A Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of relevant experience in the building science, weatherization, home performance, or related fields;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including email, phone, and chat.
  • Outstanding project and case management skills with the ability to manage multiple open customer issues and keep continued momentum toward amicable resolutions.
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills that resonate with audiences of different backgrounds; possesses the ability to communicate clearly and concisely and deescalate situations that may include high emotion.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability with a proactive and collaborative style.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with other teams.
  • Ability and appetite to learn and assimilate new information and think holistically through complex problems with technical and non-technical components.
  • Track record for building effective partnerships, facilitating consensus -building among multiple stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • For Project Manager:
    • A Master's degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience in the building science, weatherization, home performance, or related fields
  • For Assistant Project Manager:
    • A Master's degree and at least 1 year's of relevant experience in the building science, weatherization, home performance, or related fields
  • Proficiency in Salesforce and Asana.
  • Previous experience assisting low-income individuals with program access.
  • Working Knowledge of NYSERDA's Home Modernization programs.
  • General Building Science knowledge with a focus on weatherization.
  • Certification through the Building Performance Institute is preferred.
