Job Description

Our mission is to make clean power accessible. We are passionate about making a positive impact on communities and the environment where we work.

We're designing, financing, building and operating the world's most sophisticated battery systems to enable the take up of more renewable power, electrifying fleets for cleaner air, and providing clean, portable power including repurposed electric vehicle batteries. Our proprietary software and data analysis optimises operational performance for our customers to reduce emissions and costs.

Since we began in 2017, we've raised over £2.7 billion in debt and equity funding and transformed it into >1.2GW of grid-connected batteries live or under contract and c.3,400 electric vehicles supported. We have operations in the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the US and Canada, with a global headquarters in London.

We're the leading owner and operator of battery storage in the UK, supporting the National Grid with the uptake of renewable power. We also work with c.90% of the UK's major bus companies, powering 25% of the UK e-bus market. We're also the number one owner and operator of e-buses in Australia and New Zealand, and are quickly expanding into light commercial vehicles and trucks. Our rapidly growing company is looking for highly talented and motivated people to join us.

The Opportunity

As the Asset Performance Manager, you will be accountable for portfolio asset performance outcomes, technical assurance, and strategic lifecycle decisions across our utility-scale BESS fleet. You will lead data-driven governance, define performance metrics, and translate complex technical behaviour into clear strategic narratives for senior leadership.

This role sits at the critical interface of Asset Operations, Commercial, Engineering, and external technology partners. You will guide a high-performing engineering and analytical team to maximise availability, protect revenue, and optimise long-term asset value.

A Taste of the Day to Day

Technical Assurance & Performance Governance

  • Act as technical authority on asset performance baseline data. You will oversee the governance, validation, and integration of core performance metrics generated by the team, including availability (across site, BESS, BoP, and RtM), battery capability, and long-term asset degradation curves.
  • Provide technical assurance on material fleet issues and systemic performance risks, by interpreting trends across warranty-relevant operating parameters-specifically cycling rates, temperature variations, and auxiliary load profiles, establishing "what is true" for executive decision-making.
  • Set fleet-wide performance governance frameworks, including data thresholds, escalation triggers, and decision cadences.
  • Oversee the ongoing verification of grid compliance and the continuous delivery and performance of grid services across the operational fleet. This includes monitoring and mitigating risk profiles related to D* and QR/BR clawback.
  • Lead the validation of performance testing, including OEM contract verifications, and ongoing assessments such as AECT, EPT, and SPD.
  • Work closely with Engineering during the initial compliance testing regimes and ensure a seamless transition into operations, thereafter independently validating OEM contractual performance verifications.
  • Quantify technical constraints impacting realised revenue and identify mitigation strategies.

Strategic Lifecycle Management

  • Lead the long-term asset lifecycle and end-of-life performance strategy, balancing battery degradation trends against cost/risk trade-offs.
  • Use team inputs to produce executive decision packs outlining operational options, commercial trade-offs, and recommended paths.
  • Direct the team's performance optimisation program, prioritising technical initiatives and scaling operational learnings portfolio-wide.
  • Feed evidence-based performance data back into Engineering and Procurement to improve future technical specifications, design standards, and warranty frameworks.

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the 'Internal Customer' for performance, providing data-driven insight to support long-term asset strategy and lifecycle planning.
  • Own the performance narrative for the Leadership Team and Board, clearly articulating what changed, why it matters, and subsequent actions.
  • Oversee independent technical governance across internal Operations, Commercial, Route-to-Market (RtM) optimisation partners, and OEMs.

Team Leadership

  • Line manage, mentor, and develop the performance engineering team. You will be responsible for defining clear team expectations, resolving competing resource demands, and managing workload prioritisation to ensure day-to-day requests do not stall long-term strategic initiatives. By establishing a structured workflow governance and shifting the team culture from a manual reporting execution mindset to an authoritative governance model, you will protect bandwidth, drive personal accountability, and successfully scale the team's capabilities alongside the expansion of our utility-scale portfolio.

Health and Safety

  • Actively contribute to Zenobe's commitment to health and safety, wellbeing and sustainability by; integrating these principles into daily responsibilities, ensuring a safe and supportive work environment, promoting both the physical and mental health of self and colleagues, and adopting sustainable and energy-efficient practices to minimize environmental impact. By doing so, each employee at Zenobe plays a vital role in fostering a culture that prioritises overall safety, holistic wellbeing, environmental sustainability in our business operations.

What We're Looking For
