What They Do

DEME Group NV is a leading contractor in offshore energy, dredging, marine infrastructure, and environmental remediation. The company was formed from the merger of two Belgian dredging companies in 1991, but its roots date back to 1852. DEME has a strong track record with historical projects such as dredging 25 million m³ in the Westerschelde and installing the 580 km long NorNed HVDC cable. Recently, the company completed inter-array cables for various wind farms, including Rentel and Merkur, and contributed to the development of offshore wind projects in the US and Taiwan. In 2023, DEME achieved a record order book of €7.58 billion, representing a 22% increase, and expanded its total installed capacity in offshore wind to 14 GW, with over 1,200 MW of DEME's share (source: deme-group.com).

Recent Developments

In the past two years, DEME announced a revenue growth of 24% and an EBITDA increase of 26% to €596 million for 2023. The company also announced the acquisition of Havfram, a Norwegian offshore wind contractor, to strengthen its presence in the wind market. Additionally, DEME has introduced new vessels, such as the Viking Neptun and Green Jade, and is active in the US and Taiwan markets (source: deme-group.com).

Job Description

As a Technical Engineer - Offshore Systems, you play a key role in ensuring the reliability and performance of the specialized offshore equipment installed on DEME's fleet of offshore vessels. The emphasis is on maintenance preparation, mobilizations, system integration and offshore equipment.

Working from our headquarters in Belgium, you provide technical support for a wide range of offshore systems used on our vessels, including lifting, handling, subsea and mission-critical equipment. You prepare technical interventions, analyze operational challenges, and contribute to the continuous improvement of offshore systems across our fleet.

This is not a sailing or crew position. You are primarily based at our Belgian headquarters and support our vessels remotely, with occasional visits to vessels, shipyards, suppliers, or project locations when technical assessments or preparations are required.

By working across multiple vessels and offshore systems, you will gain exposure to a broad range of technologies and contribute directly to the operational success of DEME's offshore activities worldwide.

Your Responsibilities

  • Prepare technical solutions for maintenance, repair, mobilization and upgrade activities on offshore systems installed on DEME's vessels.
  • Develop work preparations, technical documentation, budgets, resource plans and safety assessments to ensure smooth execution.
  • Support the maintenance and reliability of specialized offshore equipment throughout its lifecycle.
  • Investigate technical issues and recurring failures and collaborate with reliability and operational teams to identify sustainable improvements.
  • Contribute to the integration of offshore systems on new and existing vessels.
  • Provide technical expertise to procurement teams and support the evaluation of suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Perform technical assessments on board vessels and in shipyards when required.
  • Collaborate closely with vessel crews, operational teams, equipment manufacturers and fellow engineers.
  • Stay informed about developments and innovations in offshore equipment and maritime technologies.

Your Profile

  • Master's degree in Electromechanical Engineering or another relevant technical discipline.
  • 5 years of experience in a complex technical engineering environment.
  • Experience with offshore equipment, heavy lifting systems, subsea equipment, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, or other specialized offshore technologies is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in maintenance, mobilizations, asset reliability and system integration.
  • Affinity with complex technical installations operating in a maritime or offshore environment.
  • A hands-on and pragmatic team player who enjoys working across multiple disciplines.
  • Comfortable working in an international environment with diverse stakeholders.
  • Willing to travel occasionally to vessels, shipyards, suppliers or project sites. The position is predominantly HQ-based in Belgium.

Our Offer

  • A challenging technical role supporting innovative offshore and vessels.
  • Exposure to a broad range of offshore technologies, equipment and engineering disciplines.
  • A stimulating international environment where innovation and collaboration are central.
  • Extensive learning and development opportunities through continuous training.
  • A people-oriented company culture focused on wellbeing, teamwork and personal growth.
  • An attractive mobility program supporting a healthy work-life balance.
