Job Description

  • Lead RWE's political and policy engagement across the UK, shaping the company's profile and influence with key external stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain senior relationships across Westminster and the devolved administrations, to strengthen insight, engagement and dialogue on strategic issues.
  • Represent RWE at key stakeholder events and forums, ensuring the company's priorities and positions are clearly understood.
  • Act as a deputy to the Head of Corporate Affairs UK, supporting the regional oversight and coordination of RWE's corporate communication functions to ensure effective positioning of RWE on strategic UK issues.
  • Work with external advisors, where appropriate, to deliver timely political and policy monitoring, including regular alerts and briefings on developments relevant to RWE.
  • Provide strategic advice and support to the UK Country Chair, Executive Board members (Group and Operating Companies - OpCos) and senior managers on the approach, timing and positioning of political engagement and communications.
  • Oversee and coordinate the preparation of political briefings, speeches and messaging.
  • Lead and coordinate relevant internal forums, working closely with regulatory experts across RWE OpCos to shape, align and advance RWE's internal and external positioning on strategic issues.
  • Oversee and coordinate briefings on energy policy topics, political, social and macroeconomic developments relevant to RWE's operations in the UK.
  • Day-to-day management of a Senior Public Affairs Manager and Senior Strategic Policy Manger.

Job requirements and experience

  • Degree in a relevant discipline, such as economics, business administration, political science, law or a related field.
  • At least ten years of experience in public affairs in UK, preferably in the energy sector, with a proven track record of delivering results.
  • Deep understanding of UK energy policy and the regulatory framework.
  • Accomplished communicator, with the ability to translate complex material into clear, accessible messages for different audiences.
  • Credible and engaging presence, with the ability to influence and present effectively to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders with confidence.
  • Self-starter, with a strong track record of developing innovative approaches to deliver effective advocacy and communication outcomes.
  • Broad understanding of social, economic and political developments relevant to RWE's business in the UK.
  • An excellent understanding of an integrated Communications and Public Affairs approach across all communications disciplines.
  • Strong political network across the UK.
  • Strong understanding of complex corporate structures and the ability to navigate and balance the interests of a wide range of internal stakeholders.
