Job Description

The Manager of Interconnection will serve as the lead executor of the interconnection process. The Manager will build key relationships with ISO's, RTO's, and utilities to develop and execute new renewable energy projects. This individual will have previous experience in the energy industry specifically performing interconnection work, power system studies, and/or regulatory strategy. Key responsibilities will be developing process maps for each target market and associated business execution plans to successfully navigate the interconnection process, prepare technical data as required, building internal/external relationships, ISO/RTO advocacy, and helping develop short, mid, and long-term interconnection strategy.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the company's generator interconnection process and strategy in target markets.
  • Serve as Strata's primary interface for ISOs, RTOs and utilities on all Interconnection initiatives in target markets. Build key relationships to ensure the success of Strata's interconnection projects.
  • Work with other members of the Interconnection team to assess grid capacity in target markets and with the Development team on optimal market strategy based on deep understanding of ISO/RTO/Utility requirements and generation queues.
  • Attend and track transmission expansion planning stakeholder meetings. Provide regular updates to internal teams on reforms and/or new projects important to Strata.
  • Support the Origination, Development, Engineering, and Commercial teams on strategic business development, evaluating potential interconnection options, and the execution of projects.
  • Evaluate potential target markets exploring company tariffs, proposed interconnection reforms, studies of transmission/distribution systems, technical/financial analysis of impact/cluster study results, and the development of strategic options for interconnection.
  • Ability to conduct and/or work with technical team on power flow studies including but not limited to preparing interconnection requests and generator equivalent models necessary for interconnection study process.
  • Lead the submittal of interconnection requests and directing the interconnection processes from project conception, submittal, and through the early-stage development for utility scale renewable energy projects.
  • Experience with data driven decision making for cluster study evaluations. The ability to build descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive models for queue analysis.
  • Develop systems that track key tariff requirements for process mapping and internal communication of project status/options for various phases of the interconnection process.

Qualifications

  • 3-10 years of experience at IPP or Developer, ISO/RTO, Utility, or Consulting Firm
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with transmission and distribution interconnection tariffs with a focus on interconnection procedures, studies, and planning process.
  • Experience or familiarity with power flow tools such as PSLF, PSSE, PowerGEM TARA, PROMOD, etc.
  • Passion for the energy industry.
  • Track record of developing, communicating, and implementing innovative solutions and strategies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both commercial and technical venues.
  • Ability to travel as needed (less than 20% estimated).
