Job Description
As a Senior Automation Engineer at Semco Maritime, you will join our Automation & Electrical team, working with complex control systems for energy facilities, marine installations and offshore platforms.
You will take technical ownership of automation solutions throughout the project lifecycle, from functional design and software development to commissioning, troubleshooting and lifecycle support. You will also contribute to the continued development of our technical standards and provide professional guidance to colleagues and project teams.
The role includes opportunities to work with advanced drive and motor-control solutions, including commissioning, troubleshooting and retrofit activities involving Danfoss VLT and VACON products.

Your place of work will be our Global Headquarters in Esbjerg, located at the heart of the Danish energy industry and directly on the waterfront. The position is full-time, and you can expect approximately 10-30 travel days per year.
Your tasks & responsibilities
You will work across the full project lifecycle in close collaboration with project managers, electrical designers, customers and other technical specialists.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Taking technical ownership of automation solutions and defining system architecture, interfaces and software structures.
- Designing and developing PLC software, functional descriptions and structured code for complex marine, offshore and energy systems.
- Developing automation solutions for BMS, PMS and hybrid energy systems, including ESS, shore power and generator control.
- Integrating, configuring and commissioning variable-frequency drives and motor and pump-control systems, including various solutions.
- Performing network and system integration across automation, electrical and third-party systems.
- Conducting FAT, SAT and commissioning activities both onshore and offshore.
- Troubleshooting live systems and resolving complex technical issues on critical installations.
- Reviewing and quality-assuring automation designs, software and technical documentation.
- Supporting and mentoring less experienced engineers and contributing to the development of internal standards and best practices.
- Maintaining close technical dialogue with project management, customers, suppliers and other engineering disciplines.
Your profile & qualifications
You have a technical background in automation, electrical engineering or mechatronics and solid experience from the energy, power generation, oil and gas, offshore wind or maritime industries.
You are comfortable working with complex systems where safety, reliability and uptime are essential. You approach your responsibilities proactively, communicate clearly and are capable of taking technical ownership while remaining a strong team player.
We expect that you:
- Have at least five years of experience with PLC programming in Siemens TIA Portal, preferably using SCL.
- Have experience developing automation solutions for energy, marine or offshore applications.
- Have a strong understanding of automation architecture, industrial networks and protocols such as Profinet, Modbus TCP and CAN/J1939.
- Have knowledge of energy systems, power management or hybrid solutions such as ESS and shore power.
- Have experience with variable-frequency drives, motor control and commissioning. Experience with Danfoss VLT or VACON products will be considered an advantage.
- Can translate functional and operational requirements into scalable, structured and well-documented software.
- Are capable of reviewing technical solutions and guiding colleagues on complex automation-related matters.
- Thrive in a project-driven environment with close interdisciplinary collaboration and customer interaction.
- Are willing to participate in commissioning and service assignments both onshore and offshore.
- Are professionally fluent in English. Danish language skills will be considered an advantage.
