We are looking for a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer who will be at the heart of bringing Wärtsilä Energy projects to life. Your main mission will be planning, leading and managing mechanical construction and commissioning activities on-site, ensuring everything runs smoothly from installation through to final handover.
Your role and responsibilities
As a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer your work will include taking ownership of mechanical installation and commissioning plans and delivering them with precision, while leading and inspiring the mechanical team to achieve high performance and strong collaboration. Communicating confidently with a wide range of stakeholders will be a key part of your role, ensuring alignment and clarity throughout the project.

In this role, you spend approximately 250-300 days abroad per year. Please note that relocation costs and/or immigration support are not available for this position. We offer you an interesting role in challenging and rewarding projects globally. In this position, you can work in a successful team with people from many cultural backgrounds. This is a permanent position, and the preferred location for the role is Vaasa, Helsinki, or Turku, Finland.
Your work will focus on these responsibilities
General
- Planning and monitoring the progress of mechanical works at the site
- Proactively managing scope, material flow, and securing necessary resources
- Managing and guiding subcontractors
- Planning and coordinating Last Planner System (LPS) activities with subcontractors and monitoring progress
- Facilitating root cause analyses and resolving constraints in mechanical works
- Contributing to project schedules and maintaining accurate reporting
- Maintaining strong customer relations and team spirit on-site
- Promoting economical construction and cost-saving working practices
- Ensuring mechanical as-built drawings are completed and communicated
- Safeguarding compliance with HSSE policies and minimising risks in mechanical installations and commissioning
Construction & installation
- Coordinating construction and installation works with Civil and Electrical disciplines using LPS methods
- Ensuring design and installation instructions are adhered to
- Arranging inspections of received materials and goods
- Reviewing invoices from subcontractors and suppliers
- Maintaining records of change orders and claims
- Organising and leading weekly mechanical site meetings
- Ensuring quality control at the site
- Advising and supporting the client in planning, organising and executing tests
Testing & commissioning
- Managing and planning safe inspections and test procedures
- Instructing supervisors and subcontractors on accepted test methods and equipment
- Ensuring testing of installed equipment and documenting results
- Managing punch lists
- Ensuring all required documents are submitted and signed by the customer for plant handover
Requirements
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Solid experience in mechanical installation and commissioning, preferably within power plants or large industrial projects
- Excellent communication skills and confidence in working with both internal and external stakeholders
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills for dealing with subcontractors and customers
- An organised approach with attention to detail and the ability to prioritise under pressure
- HSSE awareness and the ability to enforce safety standards on-site
- Flexibility and resilience to work abroad for extended periods (250-300 days per year)
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken
