Job Description

GE Vernova is seeking a Generator Design Liaison Engineer to support manufacturing operations at our Schenectady, NY facility. This role serves as a key technical interface between generator design engineering and manufacturing, helping ensure design intent is translated into manufacturable, high-quality, and cost-effective production outcomes across critical generator components.
Working closely with design, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams, this engineer will support resolution of technical issues, contribute to producibility improvements, and assist execution throughout the product lifecycle of GE Vernova's 50 Hz and 60 Hz air-cooled, hydrogen-cooled, and liquid-cooled generators.
This position requires a regular presence on the production floor and flexibility to support operations as needed across 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.
The scope of responsibility includes support for major generator sub-systems, including:

  • Rotor
  • Armature (stator) core
  • Armature winding
  • Armature core steel punching/lamination
  • Armature bars

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support the technical interface between generator design engineering and manufacturing on the factory floor.
  • Assist in improving generator design manufacturability while maintaining performance, quality, safety, and cost targets.
  • Participate in early design and design reviews with a focus on manufacturing feasibility, producibility, and process capability.
  • Support resolution of design-to-manufacturing technical issues across the following areas:
    • Generator rotor
    • Armature core
    • Armature winding
    • Armature core steel punching/lamination
    • Armature bars
  • Help translate engineering requirements, drawings, and specifications into clear direction for manufacturing teams and support implementation.
  • Partner with shop operations to address nonconformances and deviations, and support root cause, corrective action, and preventive action efforts.
  • Help identify and mitigate risks associated with design-to-manufacturing transfer.
  • Capture manufacturing lessons learned and support incorporation into design standards and product improvements.
  • Support new product introductions, design changes, and lean/continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering, quality, and safety standards.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing operations across shifts, as needed.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams.
  • Willingness to learn factory processes, manufacturing methods, and generator product fundamentals.
  • Ability to work in a hands-on production environment and maintain shop floor presence.

Desired Characteristics

  • 6+ mos. of relevant co-op, internship, or other applied engineering experience in manufacturing, design, or industrial operations.
  • Exposure to generator technology, rotating equipment, heavy electrical equipment, or similar industrial products.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings, manufacturing processes, and structured problem-solving methods.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement principles.
  • Experience working on cross-functional team projects in academic, internship, or co-op settings.
  • Practical, hands-on engineering mindset with interest in bridging design and manufacturing.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $72,000.00 and $108,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
