In this newly established position, you will become part of the New Build Sales & Delivery team in the global SLS Sales & Delivery organisation. The purpose of the New Build Sales & Delivery team will be to ensure business growth in Commercial Marine New Build business by partnering with selected customers to grow the SLS market share and installed base.

As a New Build Project Manager, you will lead new build delivery projects from sales confirmation all the way (including technical agreement /purchase of specification discussion) to when vessel hand over to ship owner. You will collaborate with multiple stakeholders externally (customer, suppliers etc) and internally (sales, technical manager, order management, manufacturing etc). The purpose of your job is to ensure a smooth and successful delivery to the end customer according to what was agreed in the sales phase.

In this position you will be reporting to General Manager, New Build Sales & Delivery and you will be located in China

Your main responsibilities are

  • Discuss and sign technical agreements / purchase of specifications with customer
  • Discuss & work between customers and sites to close the drawing approval comments
  • On time delivery management for assigned New Build projects
  • On time payment management for assigned New Build projects
  • NC, QM management for assigned New Build projects, work with technical manager to solve the NC, QM.
  • Act as the leader for the assigned New Build projects within the SLS organization
  • Oversee the entire New Build project delivery, being the main contact point for all stakeholders
  • Deliver contractual commitments as per Wärtsilä process and project needs
  • Actively communicate to project stakeholders, to ensure alignment in and adherence to project scope, timeline and cost
  • Own and lead the customer relationship and communication for the respective New Build delivery projects
  • Collaborate with external suppliers and parties (where needed)
  • Manage risks and opportunities throughout the project
  • Oversee and manage testing, onsite installation and commissioning
  • Coordinate all scheduling and logistics, e.g. in relation to equipment, components, parts and field services
  • Ensure focus on safety and quality during delivery

Main requirements in this role are

  • A safety-first mind-set
  • Professional technical knowledge and understanding of marine products for more than 5years, SLS technical knowledge is considered beneficial
  • Excitement and resilience to build and sustain a new way of working, both internally as well as with customers
  • Customer and business orientation with a solid aspiration to deliver value to customer
  • Strong capability to build trusting relationships and collaboration, also across cultures and borders
  • Ability to successfully lead and influence people in a matrix environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience from working in the Marine industry
  • Experience from managing projects internally or externally
  • Project Management certificate (e.g. IPMA or PMP) is considered beneficial
  • Business / Technical degree or equivalent qualifications as a combination of education and experience
  • Fluent in English and local language (Chinese) - ability to fluently communicate in 3rd language is considered beneficial
  • Willing and able to travel
