What They Do
Candi Solar is a Swiss-founded distributed solar power company that has evolved from a commercial and industrial (C&I) solar developer into a multi-country platform delivering end-to-end solar and battery solutions for businesses (source: candi.solar). The company focuses on providing integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery systems, combining Swiss engineering and design with local market insights to simplify solar adoption for commercial clients (source: candi.solar). Their business model encompasses the full project lifecycle including procurement, development, construction, financing, and operation of solar assets, particularly targeting SMEs and industrial customers in emerging markets such as India and South Africa (source: northdata.com). Candi Solar’s approach enables customers to lower their effective power costs while freeing up capital through innovative financing structures like save-to-own power purchase agreements (source: edfimc.eu). The company operates offices across Switzerland, India, South Africa, and the Netherlands, supporting its geographically diverse client base (source: candi.solar).
Projects & Track Record
Candi Solar’s track record is characterized by significant financing milestones and ambitious deployment targets rather than a long list of individually named projects. The company secured a USD 3 million commitment from EDFI ElectriFI to support expansion in India and deploy up to 36 MW of photovoltaic solar modules, marking an important early milestone in its growth (source: edfimc.eu). In June 2024, Candi Solar announced a USD 38 million Series C equity round led by Norfund, Kyuden International, and STOA to finance an additional 200 MW of commercial and industrial solar projects, underscoring its rapid scale-up ambitions (source: stoainfraenergy.com). Further accelerating its growth, the company secured an additional USD 18 million in debt funding from responsAbility and BIO in October 2024, increasing its total committed debt facility to USD 42 million and supporting expansion efforts in India and South Africa (source: responsability.com). These financial achievements highlight Candi Solar’s strong investor confidence and its focus on building a scalable platform for distributed solar energy in emerging markets.
Recent Developments
In the past two years, Candi Solar has made significant strides in securing capital to fuel its expansion. On 10 June 2024, the company announced a USD 38 million equity funding round led by Norfund, Kyuden International, and STOA aimed at supporting growth and developing 200 MW of additional commercial and industrial solar projects (source: stoainfraenergy.com). Subsequently, on 10 October 2024, Candi Solar secured an additional USD 18 million in debt funding from responsAbility and BIO, raising its total committed debt facility to USD 42 million and accelerating solar energy expansion in India and South Africa (source: responsability.com). Earlier project finance support from EDFI ElectriFI also contributed USD 3 million to finance customer expansion in India and deploy up to 36 MW of PV modules (source: edfimc.eu). These developments reflect Candi Solar’s transition from initial project deployment toward establishing a scalable platform backed by institutional investors.
Working There
Candi Solar offers roles across finance, engineering, asset management, and operations, reflecting its integrated business model. Job listings have included positions such as financial structurer and Senior Engineer / Assistant Manager – Asset Management, with locations spanning India including Chhattisgarh and Pune (source: indeed.com) (source: climatetechlist.com). The company’s recruitment page currently shows no open positions, indicating a compact and selective hiring approach (source: join.com). Public profiles emphasize a values-driven culture within a small, distributed team of approximately 50 employees, operating across multiple offices in Zurich, India, South Africa, and the Netherlands (source: offerzen.com) (source: builtin.com). This multi-office structure supports a collaborative environment focused on delivering integrated solar solutions globally.

Job Description
candi is a dedicated solar partner for businesses across Asia and Africa. Combining the international capital of our Swiss-based platform with local expertise in these regions, we're able to provide a unique offering to this underserved sector. In doing so, we aim to have a big social impact, reduce carbon emissions, create jobs, increase energy access, and save money for businesses of all sizes in emerging markets.
Our approach is to take the risk so our partners don't have to, providing businesses with flexible, end-to-end solar and battery solutions that are built to last. Our shared value model leverages our experience in customizable finance and performance offerings, quality engineering, and data-enabled asset management to help guarantee optimized systems, lowering the barrier to entry and maximizing returns.
What You Will Do?
- Data Collection & Analysis: Gather and interpret data across environmental impact (energy, water, emissions), social programs (community engagement, diversity & inclusion), governance (compliance, ethics), and health & safety (training hours, injury rates) - and go beyond the numbers to explain what they mean.
- Research & Benchmarking: Track ESG trends, regulations, and best practices, and benchmark our performance against peers to surface where we can genuinely improve, not just where we look good on paper.
- ESG Strategy Support: Contribute ideas to strategy discussions - we want fresh perspectives, not just execution of existing plans.
- Reporting & Communication: Help build ESG reports, investor materials, and sustainability content that translates complex data into clear, compelling stories for different audiences.
- Project Support: Get involved in ESG projects and events from the ground up - from concept to delivery.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Finance, People & Culture, Marketing, and Projects & Asset Management to embed ESG thinking into everyday business decisions.
- Ad-Hoc & Administrative Support: Maintain ESG KPI trackers and build presentations for training sessions and investor-facing topics.
Who You Are?
- Analytically sharp: You can collect, interpret, and make sense of complex or messy data - and you're comfortable digging in until the numbers actually tell a story.
- A creative, independent thinker: You don't just apply what you learned in class - you connect dots others miss, question the obvious approach, and bring original ideas to the table.
- Genuinely passionate about sustainability: ESG isn't just a resume line for you - you care about the environmental and social impact of business, and it shows in how you engage with the work.
- Curious and a fast learner: You're energized by new topics, tools, and frameworks, and you go looking for answers rather than waiting to be handed them.
- A clear communicator: You can translate dense or technical findings into something a non-expert (or an investor) can actually understand.
- Proactive and collaborative: You take initiative, work well independently, and thrive in cross-functional team settings.
- Detail-oriented, without losing the big picture: You catch the small errors while still keeping sight of what the analysis is actually for.
Qualification
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a bachelor's or master's program - sustainability, environmental science/engineering, business, or a related field.
- Familiarity with ESG frameworks (e.g., GRI, TCFD) is a plus, but a genuine interest in learning them matters more than prior exposure.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); experience with data or analytics tools is a bonus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Prior internship, volunteer, or project experience in sustainability or ESG is preferred but not required - we care more about how you think than your resume line count.
Who Join Us?
You'll get real exposure to how ESG strategy is built and executed in practice, mentorship from a team that values ideas over hierarchy, and the chance to leave a visible mark on projects that matter - not just make coffee and format slides.
