From our Madrid office, we are looking for a Project Controls Engineer to support planning, schedule control and cost management on our most strategic solar and BESS projects.
What Are the Key Responsibilities of the Role?
Planning and Schedule Control
- Develop, maintain and update detailed master schedules using MS Project and/or Primavera P6 for solar EPC projects.
- Monitor actual vs. planned progress, identifying critical deviations and proposing timely corrective actions.
- Produce earned value management (EVM) analyses to measure schedule (SPI) and cost (CPI) performance.
- Prepare executive progress reports (S-curves, milestones, critical path) for steering committee and stakeholder meetings.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement and construction teams to ensure accurate schedule data.
Financial Management and Cost Control
- Establish and control detailed budgets by Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for utility-scale solar projects.
- Monitor contractual commitments, actual spend, forecasts and budget variances.
- Perform cost trend analysis and end-of-project forecasting (Estimate at Completion - EAC).
- Support the financial evaluation of change orders, variations and contractual claims.
- Prepare monthly cash flow projections and integrated budget control.
Executive Reporting and Analysis
- Develop project control dashboards and KPIs to visualize performance (progress, costs, risks).
- Produce standard weekly/monthly reports for Project Managers and executive management.
- Identify and analyze critical schedule and cost risks, contributing to the project risk register.
- Benchmark against historical projects to improve future estimates.
- Prepare executive presentations and materials for portfolio reviews.
What Do You Need?
Education
- Degree in Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Additional training in Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2) or Planning & Scheduling is highly valued.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in project planning and cost control in EPC environments.
- Experience in the solar PV or renewables sector preferred; experience in other energy sectors (wind, hydroelectric, oil & gas, infrastructure) is acceptable.
- Demonstrated experience with specialized software: MS Project, Primavera P6, advanced Excel.
- Experience in earned value management (EVM) analysis and project forecasting.
- Knowledge of EPC and FIDIC contracts and cost structures in construction projects is a plus.
- High level of English (required for international reporting).
- Proactive, precise and able to work under pressure with multiple deadlines.
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to work in a multidisciplinary team.
