About STABL Energy

Company Overview

Name

STABL Energy GmbH

Headquarters

Munich, Germany

Founded

2019

Size

The company employs approximately 90 people (source: stabl.com).

What They Do

STABL Energy develops modular power electronics technologies for stationary battery storage systems with the goal of making commercial and industrial storage solutions safer, more efficient, and better suited for second-life batteries from electric vehicles (source: stabl.com). The company relies on a patented modular multilevel inverter technology that replaces conventional central inverters and battery management systems, specifically optimized for stationary battery storage (source: stabl.com). This technology improves efficiency, enhances battery voltage safety, and expands usable capacity, reducing efficiency losses by up to 70% compared to conventional models (source: stabl.com). STABL Energy offers complete battery storage solutions for medium and large commercial applications, focusing on industrial customers, cities, municipalities, cooperatives, and agricultural businesses in the DACH region (source: stabl.com). The systems are suitable for both new and second-life batteries, enabling the reuse of retired EV batteries and thereby improving resource efficiency and battery lifespan (source: stabl.com).

Projects & Track Record

STABL Energy has already commissioned several battery storage systems used in both off-grid and grid-supporting applications (source: stabl.com). In 2023, initial pilot plants were successfully launched in Germany and Switzerland (source: infineon.com). A significant project is underway in Austria, where STABL delivered seven battery storage systems to Elektrowerk Schröder, an operator of hydropower plants in Styria. This project supplies around 2,400 households and represents STABL’s first international deployment (source: bayern-innovativ.de). Additionally, STABL collaborates with partners such as Infineon, which supplies their MOSFETs, and is part of the Infineon Partner Program (source: infineon.com). Previous collaborations include pilot projects with Deutsche Bahn and Kia, highlighting the broad applicability of the technology (source: unreasonablegroup.com).

Recent Developments

In August 2023, STABL Energy secured a €15 million funding round involving Nordic Alpha Partners, the European Innovation Council, UVC Partners, UnternehmerTUM VC Fund III, and the Smart Energy Innovation Fund from Energie 360°. These funds are intended to support the growth phase and market expansion of battery storage systems based on used EV batteries (source: tech.eu). In the same year, Infineon published a press release highlighting STABL’s second-life battery solution and confirming the commissioning of the first pilot plants in Germany and Switzerland (source: infineon.com). The 2024 financial reports showed equity of €7.8 million and a net loss of €4.7 million, while total investments from private and public investors are estimated to exceed €20 million (source: bayern-innovativ.de).
