We're looking for a Power Trader to join Sunly's Energy Trading team and take an active role in managing and optimising our growing portfolio of solar, wind and battery storage assets across electricity markets.

You'll manage short-term trading positions, identify market opportunities and make decisions that directly impact the financial performance of our energy portfolio.

Our in-house trading desk is still being built, and you'll have the opportunity to help shape its strategies, tools and ways of working. We're looking for someone who takes ownership of results, challenges existing approaches and uses automation and AI to develop smarter and more efficient ways of trading.

What you will work on

Position Management & Trading

  • Prepare and execute day-ahead bids based on production forecasts, asset availability and trading strategy.
  • Actively monitor, manage and optimise positions across intraday and balancing markets (mFRR, aFRR, FCR), capturing market opportunities while controlling imbalance costs and risks.

Automation & Development

  • Build trading tools and algorithmic strategies for asset optimisation with the Head of Trading Desk, Forecast Engineer and IT, from backtesting to live deployment with fallback procedures.
  • Automate recurring manual processes using AI and other practical tools.

Risk, Compliance & Operations

  • Trade within agreed risk limits, escalating breaches and unintended exposures.
  • Follow market rules and internal trading procedures.
  • Participate in on-call and weekend rotations.

Performance & Reporting

  • Monitor, analyse and explain daily trading P&L, ensuring accurate trade data for settlement and resolving discrepancies.
  • Analyse underperformance and continuously improve trading strategies.

What describes you

  • 1-5 years of professional experience, ideally in an analytical, technical, financial or trading-related role.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, with confidence working with data, models and algorithms.
  • Ability to work with code and an interest in developing automated solutions.
  • Confidence making quick decisions in fast-moving situations while maintaining accuracy and managing risks.
  • A strong sense of ownership and independence, taking responsibility for your decisions and results.
  • A competitive and entrepreneurial mindset, with the drive to identify opportunities and improve trading performance.
  • A builder and AI-first mindset. You enjoy creating solutions from scratch, challenging manual processes and using AI and automation to develop better ways of working.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience in energy trading, financial markets or portfolio optimisation.
  • Understanding of electricity markets, particularly day-ahead, intraday and balancing markets.

What we offer

  • Support for your wellbeing, inside and outside work - a quarterly sports allowance via Stebby, comprehensive employer-provided health insurance (including dental care and specialist visits), and access to mental health counselling and coaching via siffi.com.
  • Time to rest and reset - 28 working days of annual leave, counted only in working days and usable flexibly, plus additional paid days off, including health days and leave for important life events.
  • Room to grow professionally - meaningful, hands-on challenges and a dedicated training budget for courses, certifications, and conferences, alongside internal learning opportunities to support your development.
  • Flexible hybrid work - we work in a hybrid way, with no fixed rules on office days. You are trusted to balance remote work with time in the office, and while much can be done remotely, a lot happens in the office and being there regularly makes collaboration easier.
  • Work that contributes to the energy transition - you will be part of a team building and scaling renewable energy across the region, working on services that support a more sustainable energy system.

If you are excited about contributing to the renewable energy sector, we would love to hear from you! We review applications on an ongoing basis, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

What They Do

Sunly specializes in the development, ownership, and operation of renewable energy projects focused on wind, solar, and battery storage technologies, primarily serving the Baltic region and Poland. The company integrates electricity retail services directly to households and businesses in Estonia under its own brand, creating a hybrid business model that spans project development, asset ownership, energy balancing, and customer-facing power sales (source: sunly.ee). Beyond renewables, Sunly is expanding into adjacent infrastructure sectors, including a data-centre-related project in Estonia, reflecting its strategic diversification (source: sunly.ee). The company also invests in electrification startups, positioning itself at the forefront of energy transition technologies and infrastructure innovation (source: eib.org).

Projects & Track Record

Sunly operates and develops a substantial portfolio of renewable energy parks across the Baltics and Poland, with approximately 1 GW of operational and under-construction capacity and a development pipeline totaling 6.4 GW (source: sunly.ee). Notable projects include the 244 MW Risti solar park in western Estonia, recognized as the largest photovoltaic site in the Baltics, which also features an approved 144 MW / 600 MWh battery storage system (source: eib.org). Additionally, Sunly has developed the 45 MW Raba solar park in Estonia and is advancing a 329 MW solar buildout in Latvia, supported by nearly €85 million in international financing, with sites located in Valmiera, Krāslava, Madona, and Saldus municipalities (source: eib.org). The company is also engaged in partnerships for battery storage and data center infrastructure, including collaboration with Metsagrupp on the Risti battery project and Magnora Data Center ASA on the Risti Kampus data-centre development (source: sunly.ee).

Recent Developments

In recent years, Sunly has significantly scaled its operations and financing, raising €825 million from international investors such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Mirova, and Rivage (source: eib.org). The company has commenced construction of the Risti solar park and is actively developing hybrid renewable projects combining solar, wind, and battery storage. Sunly has also broadened its portfolio by partnering with Deep Wind Offshore and VALOREM Group under the Tuul Energy initiative to explore offshore wind opportunities in Estonia (source: sunly.ee). Furthermore, Sunly has launched electricity retail services to households in Estonia, marking a strategic expansion into customer-facing energy sales (source: sunly.ee).

Working There

Sunly offers diverse career opportunities across project development, engineering, finance, operations, commercial retail, and corporate functions, with its main office located in Tallinn and additional presence in Riga, Vilnius, and Warsaw (source: sunly.ee). The company’s hybrid business model creates demand for roles in trading, customer operations, product support, project finance, land acquisition, permitting, grid connection, and asset management (source: sunly.ee). Sunly’s culture reflects a dynamic, growth-oriented environment focused on launching and operating large-scale renewable assets and expanding across multiple countries, rather than a traditional utility approach (source: eib.org). Employee benefits are not extensively documented publicly, though the company offers access to green electricity plans for customers (source: sunly.ee).
