Energy: Pioneering electrification
Sweden is one of the few countries where the electricity generation is already fossil free. A combination of low-cost renewable electricity and depreciated nuclear power provides the lowest electricity prices in Europe. As a result, new renewable electricity will not be needed to replace fossil electricity generation. Instead, a series of industrial investments have been made, or are under way, to use new fossil free electricity or hydrogen produced from it to replace fossil fuel in industries and the transport sector.

Chalmers is hosting several relevant national competence centres: The Swedish Electricity Storage and Balancing Centre, Swedish Electromobility Centre, Tech for H2 as well as co-hosting the Swedish Wind Center. These centers are co-financed by public funds and industry and provide for relevant research and utilization of results.

Chalmers has a long tradition of research in collaboration with industry. At Chalmers we are now expanding our capacity to deal with electricity system opportunities, high voltage power electronics, high voltage transmission technologies as well as electro-technologies for future process industries relying on renewable electricity supplies.

We seek an Assistant Professor that can take this development further, both in teaching and by developing technologies and system knowledge contributing to the accelerated replacement of fossil resources in Sweden and in the world. You can read more about all our activities here: Energy | Chalmers
