All Plant Operating Staff are responsible for the day‐to‐day operation, electrical aptitude, surveillance and monitoring, and security of the Plant Facilities, including its applicable structures, operating equipment, auxiliary equipment, etc. Plant Operating staff operate and monitor project equipment while maintaining a constant awareness of dam safety. Plant Operating Staff will possess a unique understanding of the dam, related structures, and the plant equipment because they will be working on or around the project facilities daily. Plant Operators are expected to be able to maintain a regularly flexible schedule to meet the needs of the powerhouse and dam facilities. As such, they are the first line of defense against failure or incorrect operations. The Plant Operating Staff must take the appropriate actions to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the plant facilities while performing all work in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and safety and environmental regulations.

Plant Operators will:

  • Cooperate and communicate with all Operations and support staff. Expectations are that clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are utilized.
  • Faithfully record and maintain required dam safety, operations, and compliance documentation including records, log sheets, performance instrumentation readings, and safety and environmental programs including the DSSMP and DSSMR
  • Maintain security measures at all facilities, including closing and locking of all access gates and buildings.
  • Maintain all public safety devices and keeps them in working order
  • Address dam safety concerns in a timely manner, including immediate action if the dam failure is imminent
  • Confirm the operations of all alarm and monitoring systems.
  • Respond to all alarms
  • Maintain and enforce all applicable local, state, and federal environmental permits and regulatory requirements
  • Understand the highlighted PFM’s and the associated structure performance monitoring
  • Properly start-up and shut down all project equipment and auxiliary systems related to the plant
  • Enforce and Operate the plant in accordance with all Company and Compliance Guidelines, Policies and Practices
  • Assist with the developing and improving operational policies and procedures
  • Work in a team environment with co-workers from various company departments
  • Perform all routine preventative and predictive maintenance checks and checklists, as assigned
  • Assist with plant maintenance and repairs when necessary and as qualified
  • Receive continual education and training in all project matters related to safety, dam safety, operations, and regulatory matters
  • Coordinate and record all facility related events as necessary
  • Proficient with computers, Office Skills (i.e. Team, Excel, Word, Email, Calendars, Etc.) written skills, smart phones, and verbal communications
  • Keep the Regional Manager informed of all unusual conditions that might affect the dam, safety, dam safety, plant operations and license requirement

Job Physical Requirements:

  • Able to regularly travel for the company, between locations as needed.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, and remain active for the majority of the workday.
  • Physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, navigate passenger use of scaffolding or personnel hoists, and the ability to climb ladders and negotiate active work areas as needed.
  • Specific vision abilities required for job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, the ability to adjust focus, and ability to navigate in low-light areas.
  • Performing this job requires use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Physical ability to sit, talk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl to meet demands of work tasks.
  • Ability to hear bells, alarms, whistles, phones, etc.
  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to repetitively lean, stoop, lift and twist using arm & shoulder strength to complete work tasks.
  • Physical capacity to work safely in all weather conditions
  • Ability to maintain stability and balance while walking on uneven or slippery surfaces

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
  • First Aid/CPR/AED/BBP training and certification
  • Demonstrated skill with computers including Microsoft Office suite programs
  • Other Safety Certifications and EH&S related trainings
  • Other industry specific (dam safety, electrical work, etc.) related trainings or certifications
