Careers at Siemens Energy

Due to the energy transition and the implementation of more and more renewable energy sources, the increased use of FACTS devices is necessary for the safe operation of the AC transmission grid. We need a system engineer (f/m/d) for the modelling of FACTS systems. You will be responsible for creating simulation models and carrying out simulations in the electrical transmission grid to verify the functionalities. You will work in a collaborative environment with guided onboarding. The tasks for the models and simulations are always different, as the requirements for FACTS devices can differ just as much as the AC transmission grids can differ. If you want to start your career in energy technology after graduating and are you motivated to put your knowledge into practice? Then we look forward to receiving your application!

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Development and validation of simulation models (e.g. PSCAD/EMTDC, Matlab/Simulink) within tender and project execution of FACTS application
  • Responsible for the optimization of the control behavior of the FACTS device (e.g. analysis of the dynamic performance) according to customer and national grid code requirements
  • Analyze the potential interactions between the FACTS device and other controlled devices in the power system including all types of renewables (e.g. sub-synchronous torsional oscillation, stability performance, parallel operation)
  • Conduct customer trainings for simulation models and presentation of study results to customer
  • Support the tender and project management with your expertise in technical discussions and customer meetings
  • Develop continuous improvement and standardization of simulation models, study procedures, study methods, processes in project execution and documentation of results
  • Responsible for the coordination of external partners and sub suppliers

What You Bring

  • Very good masters master's degree electrical (power) engineering, control engineering or similar
  • Professional user of typical power system simulation programs, especially PSCAD/EMTDC and PowerFactory, as well as PSS/E
  • Knowledge in the field of high voltage applications, power transmission systems, power electronics such as voltage source converters, and power system planning
  • Demonstrated skills in control engineering and its applications to power systems such as FACTS devices
  • Knowledge of modeling electrical power systems, its components, its controls, and analysis of its performance in the time domain and frequency domain
  • Good German and English communication skills in reading, writing, and speaking
