Job Description

About the role

As a Senior Corporate Lawyer – Sustainable Energy Solutions, you will provide strategic, independent, and timely legal advice to AGL’s innovative and high visibility business units, ensuring legal risks are managed while enabling our teams to achieve strategic goals. In this newly created role, you’ll bring your expertise in diverse areas of law (with a focus on Construction Law), to support AGL and its customers achieve their energy transformation goals and contribute to the growth of our legal team.

This is a Full Time Permanent position, and can be based in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth (Hybrid).

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Group Counsel – Sustainable Energy Solutions, you will:

  • Legal Expertise & Advisory: Deliver relevant, actionable, and strategic legal advice to Sustainable Business Energy Solutions (SBES), Electrification & Innovation, and Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Operations teams. Manage external legal advice as required, ensuring it is tailored to the needs of our business.
  • Team Collaboration: Actively participate in the Sustainable Energy Solutions Legal Team’s meetings, career development, and strategic discussions, supporting the Group Counsel and General Manager to drive efficiency and impact.
  • Specialist Knowledge Development: Maintain and develop expertise in key legal areas such as construction law, competition and consumer law, energy regulation, intellectual property, privacy, data security, environmental law, and modern slavery compliance.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships and influence across business units to safeguard AGL’s legal position while driving innovative and practical solutions.
  • Mentorship & Leadership: Opportunities to mentor junior lawyers, oversee legal placement students, and support the development of legal team capabilities.

About you

  • Bachelor of Laws degree and an unrestricted practising certificate in Australia.
  • Extensive experience in private practice or in-house legal roles, particularly in supporting commercial and customer-facing business units, ideally with 6+ years PQE.
  • Proven ability to lead complex legal matters, navigate regulatory and commercial change, and drive business improvements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish credibility, build trust, and influence stakeholders effectively.
