Job Description

The strategic goal of BayWa r.e. is the creation of a focused and integrated project developer in the renewable energy sector. The aim is to realize projects exceeding 2 GW per year and to expand the company’s own IPP portfolio to a total capacity of over 1 GW after its optimization starting in 2026. For our IPP portfolio, we are looking for an Engineer IPP (m/w/d) to join our team full-time in Munich, Hamburg or Freiburg.

What you will do

  • Manage the technical due diligence of new assets to be added to the IPP portfolio (wind farms, solar farms, energy storage systems): yield evaluations, plant design, grid connection, SCADA, certification, equipment supply and operation & maintenance (O&M) contracts, spare parts
  • Support IPP Asset Managers in assessing the technical performance of the IPP assets
  • Provide IPP Asset Managers with technical advice on required O&M or retrofit/upgrades measures for IPP assets as well as the IPP asset management strategy
  • Critically review in-house or third-party plant design based on experience with IPP plants in operation; establish technical requirements for future plants
  • Analyze technical failures in IPP assets and derive recommendations for the O&M and spare parts strategy of these plants as well as equipment supply and plant design for future assets
  • Evaluate technical operational risks and opportunities of IPP assets
  • Liaise with global, regional and local engineering departments on a regular basis reg. new plant design, major technical issues encountered, best-practice sharing, etc.
  • Develop network of internal experts and external engineering services companies that can support IPP in specific technical issues at hand
  • Contribute to enhancing best-practice methods, processes, knowledge management, internal tools & templates

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Relevant degree in a technical/engineering area: mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering, site assessment
  • At least five years of professional experience in engineering of renewable energy power plants (wind and/or solar farms)
  • Sound technical and engineering capabilities, strong interest for all technical disciplines
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Sound knowledge of power generation and transmission/distribution systems
  • Creative and pragmatic with an ability to find solutions to challenging problems
  • Organized and able to manage multiple projects and stakeholders
  • Ability to translate analysis into practical and implementable recommendations
  • Naturally curious, self-motivated and enthusiastic
  • Flexible attitude and ability to be proactive and act on own initiative
  • A team player, willing to provide support to all colleagues
  • Excellent English & German communication skills, both written (presentations, reports, documents) and spoken
  • Excellent Microsoft Office knowledge, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ideally good understanding of energy markets
