Job Description
Matrix Renewables is a renewable energy platform that was founded by global alternative asset manager TPG through its impact investing platform, TPG Rise, in 2020. Headquartered in Madrid, Matrix Renewables focuses on developing, constructing and being long-term owners of renewable energy assets.

The Role
At Matrix Renewables we are looking for a highly motivated individual to play a key role supporting our Matrix Renewables Operations Department.
At Matrix Renewables we’re seeking an Interconnection Manager who will manage the relationship with Terna and Enel and oversee generator interconnection processes in Italy, prepare interconnection applications, interpret and contest interconnection studies by ISO/RTOs and utilities, lead generation interconnection agreement negotiation and execution, guide greenfield prospecting, review and participate in ISO/RTO transmission planning process, and provide ad-hoc technical support to DG business unit.
This role is an individual contributor role but has a strong influence in the strategy of the company and will be pivotal to the success of the company. This individual will support all aspects of projects from development through commissioning and engaging with management of utility companies and TSOs is a must.
Responsibilities
- Solid electrical engineer to provide expertise and analytical support on transmission and interconnection issues particularly related to greenfield siting and renewable development projects as well as later stage interconnection for construction projects.
- Being able to manage transmission analysis studies to forecast system conditions to assess grid related risks and provide analyses of congestion and basis risks for potential and existing projects with a long-term view of the market.
- Prepare generator interconnection applications and meet technical modelling requirement (power flow, dynamics, short circuits, EMT, etc).
- Manage projects throughout the entire interconnection process, review and contest ISO/RTO/utility screening/impact/facility studies.
- Manage projects’ interconnection cost and schedule risks. Negotiate and execute generation interconnection agreements.
- Provide expert interconnection support to Development, Origination, Finance, and other departments.
- Provide technical support to project commissioning and operation.
- Represent Matrix’s interests in regional stakeholder processes, and establish working relations with ISOs, RTOs, utilities etc.
- Provide interconnection technical support to different business unit as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Provide technical support to Procurement department of Main components.
Requirements
- Substantial Track record in managing the relationship with Enel and Terna on the Regional as well as National levels.
- Track record in permitting and building provisional interconnection projects.
- Strong understanding of non recourse project finance requirements.
- Facilitate and Support Matrix participation in different auctions (e.g. Fer-x, MACSE etc).
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to distill and communicate complex technical issues to non-technical audiences and work collaboratively with project teams.
- Strong technical, statistical, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in a project-driven environment with occasional tight deadlines and concurrent deliverables.
- Ability to obtain approval to access Critical Energy Infrastructure Information (CEII) [see https://www.ferc.gov/enforcement-legal/ceii].
- Ability to travel on occasion.
- Strong knowledge of interconnection processes, commissioning, and compliance with the grid code in Italy.
Experience
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree and/or power system concentration is preferred).
- 10 years in the electric energy industry, power flow (PSSE/ TARA/ PSLF/ PowerWorld) modelling, transmission planning, interconnection study experience are preferred.
- Solid knowledge in generator interconnection process, project management, and transmission/substation engineering in Italy.
- Solid network within utilities and TSO in Italy.
- Working knowledge of documents relating to transmission and interconnection (e.g., study agreements, tariffs, interconnection agreements) is required.
- Competency in analytical problem solving, excellent communication skills, customer/stakeholder relationships.
- Knowledge and management of technical software such as DIgSILENT, Autocad, Electrical Line Calculation, etc.
- Fluent in English and Italian.
