Company Overview

Smart Energies Group (operating entity Smart Energies Internal Services s.r.o.)

Prague, Czech Republic

2012

Approximately 100 employees and revenue of €20 million in 2024 (source: rejobs.org)

What They Do

Smart Energies Group is a renewable energy developer and independent power producer specializing in medium-sized photovoltaic and energy storage projects across Europe. Their core business focuses on the development, financing, construction, and operation of solar projects ranging from 100 kWp to several MWp, including rooftops, park shelters, and small ground-mounted systems (source: smart-energies.eu). The company is expanding its portfolio to include solar carports, battery energy storage systems (BESS), hybrid energy solutions, local distribution systems (LDS), and power balancing solutions (PBS), targeting farmers, commercial and industrial clients, institutional investors, and other customers (source: helapco.gr). Their multidisciplinary approach combines development, financing, construction, and operation, enabling tailor-made energy solutions that reduce CAPEX for real estate developers and benefit landowners and local authorities through high local acceptance and project structuring (source: rejobs.org).

Projects & Track Record

Smart Energies Group has commissioned over 750 solar sites with a total capacity exceeding 200 MWp, maintaining a portfolio of more than 1,000 projects primarily in France, Italy, and Greece (source: smart-energies.eu) (source: rejobs.org). As of January 2025, the company owns and operates over 650 renewable energy plants with more than 160 MW operational or under construction, aiming to reach 600 MWp by 2028 (source: helapco.gr). Notable milestones include the first rooftop solar power plant in France in 2013, expansion into Italy in 2018, and Greece in 2022 (source: rejobs.org). In Central Europe, the group operates four LDS projects and is preparing additional LDS and PBS projects in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, including the technically challenging largest Tesla charging hub at Čestlice Shopping Centre delivered without operational interruptions (source: rejobs.org).

Recent Developments

In recent years, Smart Energies Group completed two equity fundraising rounds in 2022 and 2024 totaling €107 million, supporting its growth and expansion into storage and new markets (source: helapco.gr). In 2024, Swen Capital and Plenium Capital acquired stakes in the company, while RGreen Invest renewed its support following its initial investment in 2022, coinciding with the launch of the storage business and the first Greek solar plant (source: rejobs.org). The company continues to expand in Central Europe, particularly in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, with 10 LDS projects, 12 PBS projects in preparation, and over 150 MW in upcoming BESS projects (source: rejobs.org). The 2024 revenue of €20 million reflects the company’s ongoing scale-up in solar and storage development (source: rejobs.org).

Working There

Smart Energies Group hires across project delivery and finance functions, including roles in project management, technical execution, finance, and accounting (source: rejobs.org). The Prague office, located near the main railway station, offers full-time employment with 25 days of annual leave plus 3 sick days, occasional home office by agreement, and a startup-style environment without corporate formalities (source: rejobs.org). The company’s careers page highlights opportunities for experienced finance professionals with strong accounting and financial management skills (source: smartenergies.cz). Active recruiting under Smart Energies Internal Services s.r.o. confirms a dynamic workplace with occasional remote work options, supporting a multidisciplinary team focused on photovoltaic, storage, LDS, and balancing activities (source: jobs.cz).

Job Description

We are looking for a senior electrical engineer to join our broader technical team. The role involves close cooperation with Business Development, the licensing manager (ERO/OTE/registration), the head of implementation, metrology, and the control room. You will attend WIP meetings, lead or support change management, prepare design documentation at all stages and energy balance calculations, and address network elements, including e-mobility.

What you will be doing with us

  • Technical leadership of LDS and on-site electrical system design, from concept to commissioning.
  • Complete zoning, permitting, detailed design, construction, and as-built documentation, including checks for compliance with legislation (ČSN, EN/IEC, PNE), distributor/ERÚ/OTE requirements, and fire detection and alarm systems and other fire safety systems.
  • Connectivity studies, load-flow, short-circuit ratios, protection selectivity, protection settings, earthing and lightning protection, protection coordination, including FRT/anti-islanding for generation sources.
  • Integration of generation sources (photovoltaics, BESS, CHP), high-density e-mobility, peak management, and energy balances (import/export, island mode/balancing services).
  • Technical supervision and design oversight on site, FAT/SAT, functional tests (including network switching, backup, and fire safety interfaces).
  • Change management: proposing and approving changes, and assessing impacts on CAPEX/OPEX and the schedule.
  • Calculations and BOQ - technical specifications for tenders, bid evaluation, TCO.
  • Communication with distributors (ČEZ DI/EGD/PRE), network operators, and relevant authorities (Fire and Rescue Service, etc.).
  • Cooperation with the licensing manager (generation plant/LDS licences, metering, OTE registration) and with operations (SCADA/AMM, SLA).

What we would like to see from you

  • Secondary or higher education in electrical engineering + experience of VN/NN/LDS design and the connection of loads/generation sources.
  • Professional competence pursuant to Government Regulation No 194/2022 (authorised for independent activity/management of activities and design).
  • Demonstrable experience of working with studies and calculations (load-flow, short circuit, selectivity), protection and coordination, and transformer substation/HV/LV design.
  • Knowledge of the standards and procedures of the main distribution system operators - ČEZ/EGD/PRE (technical conditions, connection requirements).
  • Knowledge of SCADA/AMM, EMS/DR, integration of PV/BESS/CHP, use of tools such as ETAP/DIgSILENT PowerFactory (or equivalent), and experience of ERÚ/OTE requirements is an advantage.

What you will use every day

  • Tools: AutoCAD/EPLAN required; Excel for budgets/BOQ; calculation tools (ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, CYMCAP), and basic BIM coordination in Revit an advantage.
  • Processes: WIP meetings (project/technical), change management, documentation versioning, FAT/SAT and functional test checklists.

What we offer

  • Real impact: you design networks that we build and operate ourselves (rapid feedback from operations).
  • An investment environment without corporate barriers - quick decision-making and the opportunity to influence CAPEX/OPEX and technical standards.
  • Competitive remuneration based on seniority, plus a performance component.
  • Opportunity to lead signature projects (LDS for shopping centres/logistics, integration of generation sources, high-load e-mobility).
  • Offices in the centre of Prague (near the main railway station).
  • Full-time employment relationship, 25 days of annual leave + 3 sick days. Occasional home office by agreement.
  • MultiSport card paid for by your employer and refreshments at the workplaces.
