Company Overview
Goldwind Science & Technology Co., Ltd.
Beijing, China
1998
Over 10,000 employees globally (source: linkedin.com). Projected revenue of $6.7 billion in 2024 (source: goldwindamericas.com).
Their Business
Goldwind focuses on wind energy technology, particularly large wind turbine generators (WTGs), utilizing Permanent Magnet Direct Drive (PMDD) technology. Of the more than 26,000 turbines produced by the company, over 23,000 are designed with this technology to enhance efficiency and reduce maintenance costs (source: wikipedia.org). Goldwind's products and services span four main areas: turbine manufacturing (R&D, production, and sales of turbines and their components), wind power services (construction, post-warranty maintenance, asset management), wind farm development (development, operation, and sales of wind farms), and other services including solar projects and financial leasing. Goldwind also offers comprehensive solutions from planning, wind resource assessment, feasibility studies, design, bidding, construction to operation and maintenance, claiming to achieve a 10-20% increase in power generation and a 5-10% reduction in costs (source: goldwindamericas.com).
Projects and Achievements
Notable projects by Goldwind include the Daban City Wind Farm in China (the first wind farm established in 1989, using 150kW turbines), the installation of 500MW PMDD turbines by Goldwind Americas in the United States, two projects acquired in Texas totaling 300MW between 2016-2017, and the Penonome I and II wind farms in Panama (managing/operating a total of 270MW). As of the latest statistics, Goldwind's cumulative installed capacity globally exceeds 40GW, with 26,000 turbines installed (source: wikipedia.org). The company develops and operates wind and solar projects worldwide, with its Australian subsidiary owning and operating local assets, having secured a $6 billion low-interest loan from the China Development Bank in 2010 for expansion (source: goldwindamericas.com).
Recent Developments
In September 2021, Goldwind announced the successful grid connection of its GW 5S smart turbine (an onshore test unit of over 5 megawatts), marking a technological milestone (source: zoominfo.com). Goldwind maintains a market share of 20-25% in the Chinese turbine market until 2024, with no significant acquisitions, mergers, or financing rounds recorded, except for the $6 billion loan in 2010; the company has received investment-grade credit ratings from S&P Global and Moody's and is the first company in China to issue green bonds (source: wikipedia.org).
Work Environment
Goldwind offers positions across turbine manufacturing (R&D, engineering, production), wind power services (construction, maintenance, asset management), and wind farm development (project development, operation), with over 1,000 R&D engineers among its more than 10,000 employees (source: zoominfo.com). Recruitment primarily occurs at the Beijing headquarters, Urumqi, Chicago in the USA, and other cities; although recent employee growth metrics have been tracked, there is no specific recruitment information available (source: goldwindamericas.com). The company culture emphasizes stakeholder interests (employees, customers, suppliers, communities), implementing talent marketization from 2006-2010 and professional management restructuring from 2011-2015 (source: wikipedia.org).
