What They Do
Lundsby specializes in biogas production from biomass, offering EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) turnkey solutions that convert thousands of tons of organic waste from agriculture, households, and industry into CO₂-neutral biomethane. This biomethane can be upgraded for injection into the gas grid, liquefied biogas (LBG), or energy supply (source: lundsby.com). Their services include complete plant design, construction, commissioning, and customization for scalability, including robust tanks, upgrading systems, and byproduct management, with close collaboration with customers before, during, and after construction to ensure reliability and future expansion (source: lundsby.com). Target markets are centered around Northern Europe, where they serve utilities, energy companies, and biomass producers seeking stable green energy to complement intermittent renewable energy sources like solar and wind (source: lundsby.com). As one of Denmark's largest biogas EPC developers, they stand out with 30 years of progression from small farm plants to multimillion-scale facilities, and they have been pioneers in upgrading for the gas grid, as seen with the Madsen Bioenergy facility (source: lundsby.com).
Projects & History
Among the notable completed projects is Tønder Biogas in Denmark, which is one of Europe's largest, handling 930,000 tons of biomass annually to produce over 40 million Nm³ of biomethane, achieving a production record of 127,000 m³ per day in 2025 (source: lundsby.com). Götene Biogas in Sweden for Gasum processes 400,000 tons of biomass annually for 120 GWh of LBG and reached full operation in early 2025 (source: lundsby.com). Madsen Bioenergy in Salling, Denmark, is the groundbreaking facility for upgrading to the gas grid, established in 2012 (source: lundsby.com). Current projects include the upgrading of Langaa Bioenergy in Denmark, being carried out without stopping operations (source: lundsby.com), as well as a new 133 GWh facility in Borlänge, Sweden for Gasum under an EPC contract from 2024 (source: formland.com). An additional EPC contract was signed in November 2024 for a large-scale facility in Kiuruvesi, Finland by Suomen Lantakaasu Oy (source: formland.com). Key customers include Gasum (Sweden, Götene, and Borlänge) as well as local Danish partners, with a geographical presence in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and previously Germany (source: lundsby.com).
Recent Developments
In the past two years, Lundsby has secured significant EPC contracts, including the October 2024 agreement in Borlänge, Sweden for 133 GWh capacity with Gasum and the November 2024 project in Kiuruvesi, Finland (source: formland.com). Tønder Biogas reached a production milestone of over 5,300 m³ of biomethane per hour in 2025, and Götene Biogas was inaugurated into full operation early in 2025 (source: lundsby.com). Langaa Bioenergy upgrades are progressing without downtime (source: lundsby.com). Leadership was transferred to Carsten Nielsen, who was appointed CEO as of April 1, 2025, to drive growth and international expansion (source: lundsby.com). The company celebrated its 30th anniversary on October 31, 2025, highlighting three decades of biogas advancements (source: lundsby.com). No acquisitions, mergers, or funding rounds were reported during this period.
