Boralex has been providing renewable and affordable energy for over 30 years. The Group, composed of more than 800 employees, operates renewable assets with an installed capacity of over 3 GW and is developing a project portfolio of 6.8 GW in wind, solar, and energy storage.

As part of our Canadian portfolio, Boralex is seeking an Occupational Health and Safety Advisor.

Reporting to the Occupational Health and Safety Director, you will facilitate the development and implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety (H&S) Management System to achieve operational objectives and the pursuit of zero incidents. You will be responsible for advising, guiding, and influencing operations managers and workers in accordance with the legal requirements and the organization's H&S policies. You will work closely with operational sites to help managers and workers develop proactive reflexes and behaviors toward H&S.

This role will cover our operations across Canada, 80% being in Ontario.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Promote a strong Culture of Safety;
  • Support the development and implementation of the H&S strategic plan in collaboration with the H&S Department and operational leadership;
  • Provide guidance and act as a role model for workers, supervisors and managers in the effective implementation of processes and procedures;
  • Conduct regular site visits to support operational staff and ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and programs through coaching, inspections, and audits;
  • Support site managers and supervisors to update risk assessments and related control measures;
  • Collaborate in incident investigations for recordable and high potential incidents and identify root causes and corrective actions to prevent recurrence;
  • Monitor onsite implementation of corrective actions with managers;
  • Maintain a good overview of project progress and the achievement of H&S objectives at all sites;
  • Ensure that legal changes are tracked and communicated for implementation on the field;
  • Participate in the development, updating, and management of programs, initiatives, or activities;
  • Participate in various committees such as the Joint Health and Safety committee;
  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of routine H&S reports and other various communications;
  • Acquire new H&S skills and knowledge by actively participating in promising projects within an international team;
  • Propose and implement innovative OHS solutions.

To succeed in this role, you should have

  • A bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Science, Engineering (or other relevant education).
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience in the renewable energy or the oil and gas industry is a significant asset.
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of H&S legal requirements and standards.
  • Have a strong sense of collaboration and customer service.
  • Can work independently and manage priorities.
  • Excellent ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Have a strong ability to focus on achieving results and be a good change agent.
  • Be efficient, reliable and have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Have strong communication skills, be able to establish effective partnerships, and coach individuals and/or teams.
  • Be willing to travel frequently to sites.
  • Ability to travel up to 40-50% on site.
  • Ability to work at heights, including climbing and descending wind turbines.
  • Have a valid driver's license.
