We are seeking a Agile Coach who will act as a scrum master, change agent, and teacher - helping not only teams but also the wider organization to make incremental changes with the goal of improving the overall product development capabilities in Wärtsilä's Digital Product Development organization.
We are currently in our third year of a thoughtful adoption of the LeSS framework in which we strive to simplify organizational complexity while implementing our own unique people-centric ways of working.
Although this position follows a hybrid work model and remote work is supported, employees are expected to work onsite at the office 2-3 days per week.
About the Role
As a Agile Coach, you will coach individuals, teams and managers to expand their capabilities and facilitate the ability to challenge the status quo. Together with other Agile Coaches and Scrum Masters, you will work alongside our Area Product Owner who sets the product vision and priority. You will also work with broader organization like People Managers and various stakeholders to remove systemic impediments, implement LeSS principles and foster modern product development practices.
You will also play a crucial role in
- Exposing and addressing organizational impediments that hinder adaptability
- Creating an environment where teams are empowered, they maintain whole product focus, and are continuously learning
- Fostering and supporting technical communities to create a shared vision of practices
- Working with product development staff to facilitate technical excellence and maximize simplicity
- Collaborating closely with other Scrum Masters to ensure coherence in ways of working, coaching and organizational development
- Support people managers and stakeholders during their evolution in a LeSS organization
Your core responsibilities
- Coach multiple teams in self-management, transparency and systems thinking
- Teach and demonstrate how to apply LeSS principles in daily work activities
- Foster improvement of technical practices through cultivation of a continuous learning culture
- Help teams and other stakeholders learn how to identify and resolve organizational dysfunctions that prevent progress towards product organization goals
- Actively work with managers, leaders and developers to support the LeSS adoption and evolve organizational structures
- Facilitate Scrum events only when needed with the goal of having teams and other stakeholders learn how to effectively execute and facilitate independently
What we're looking for
- Proven experience as a Scrum Master in a multi-team or large product development environment
- Strong background in coaching teams to reduce technical debt while achieving high value delivery
- Deep understanding of the Scrum Guide and the LeSS Principles
- Ability and interest in challenging the status quo, facilitate change, and foster systemic improvement
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent facilitation skills
- Relevant Scrum Master education and certifications (e.g. PSM II/III, LeSS Practitioner or Coach certification)
- Ability to work co-located in Helsinki minimum 2-3 days a week
- Hands-on experience in teaching software development practices (e.g. pair programming, test driven development, refactoring) is a strong plus
- Proficiency in English, Finnish is a plus
