Uplight is creating a new category of energy. We make software that manages energy resources in homes and businesses-including things like smart thermostats, electric vehicles, solar panels, storage batteries, heat pumps, and even people's behavior-to generate, shift, or save energy to balance the grid, making it more efficient and reliable. This creates clean energy capacity that can be used by the power grid instead of burning more fossil fuels. Our solutions accelerate the transition to clean energy and save money for energy customers.

We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineer I to join our team and help us achieve our ambitious goals for our business and for the planet.

What you get to do

We are searching for a disciplined Site Reliability Engineer I with cloud interest who is passionate about changing the way millions of people save energy. You'll work within the Infrastructure Platform team to build and improve our platforms that enable our developers to provide a direct touch point between utilities and their users. You'll be a part of developing a robust architecture to manage massive amounts of data and leveraging it to deliver a compelling experience to users across our platforms. You'll be joining a passionate team of engineers working all over North America.

What you will contribute

• Managing, developing, and improving core compute platform
• Providing guidance around cloud best practices
• Building and improving tools used by the product engineering teams
• Be capable of prioritizing your work to adhere to a deliverable schedule and ensure successful delivery that exceeds expectations
• Have a strong eye for detail and quality of your code
• Not be afraid to dig into hard problems, and enjoy experimenting to come up with simple, elegant solutions

What you bring to Uplight

• You love to learn and can be coached
• You are a newer engineer that can independently problem solve
• Terraform or other IaC languages
• Experience with Python or Go
• Basic understanding/experience with Docker or other container technologies
• Have familiarity with APIs and RESTful standards
• Demonstrable experience with writing unit and functional tests
• You are familiar with Git or other version control software
• Ability to deliver against several initiatives simultaneously
• Computer Science / Engineering background, or industry experience

Bonus Points

• Experience with ETLs and data pipelines
• CI/CD or other DevOps experience
• Automation of multi-step repetitive tasks
• Familiarity with Kubernetes
• Serverless architecture familiarity
• You work on the command line confidently and are familiar with all the goodies that the linux toolkit can provide
• AWS, GCP or other cloud service provider experience
• Experience working in an AGILE environment
• You are familiar with Git or other version control software

Salary Range

$75,000 to $90,000 CAD + bonus

In accordance with Canadian market data the approximate annual base compensation range is listed above. The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be determined by a number of factors including the applicant's experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity among our team.
