Reporting to the Manager Energy Trader, you will be responsible for executing revenue optimization strategies in the intra-day and next day markets. Working as part of small team.
You will play an important role in
- Scheduling: Perform energy scheduling tasks including preparation of Day Ahead and Real Time schedules, submittal of bids & offers to ISO, validations, and maintenance of bids & offers throughout the operating day for energy, capacity and ancillary products while ensuring compliance with markets rules, contractual obligations, and unit capability
- Revenue Optimization: Develop and implement physical revenue optimization strategies, including Day Ahead/Real Time, Ancillary products and production schedules optimization
- Financial Transactions: Participate in financial transactions strategies and execution, including Futures, Swaps and Financial Transmission Rights and equivalent products in different ISOs
- Compliance: Maintain compliance with the organization's Risk Management Framework at all times
- Record Keeping: Ensure accurate recording and validation of transactions in ETRM systems
- Market Monitoring: Maintain detailed comprehension of North American energy markets rules, reports, processes and market dynamics where Boralex operates (currently includes IESO, ERCOT, SPP, NYISO, and CAISO)
- Forecasting: Contribute to development of price forecasts and maintain a view of intra-day and next day hourly market prices to optimize Real Time and Day Ahead bidding strategies
- Automation and Process Improvements: Contribute to the development of internal applications and systems as well as trading automation, validations and analytical tools
- Problem Solving: Assist in any other tasks as required by the trading and commercialization team
Candidates must be willing to work 12-hour rotating shift schedules in the Ottawa/Gatineau office.
To succeed in this position, you need
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Data Science, Engineering, or related field
- Knowledge of energy markets and/or trading experience considered an asset
- Ability to work under pressure, with tight deadlines
- Highly accurate and detail oriented
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Programming and data science skills considered an asset
- Teamwork and ability to communicate are critical
- Proficiency in English is required to analyze, negotiate, and manage contracts and communications with international partners and suppliers.
