Job Description

The Control/ SCADA Expert will design and engineer control systems, SCADA interfaces, and communication architectures for Solar, BESS, and C&I interconnection projects. Develop control logic, communication specifications, and integration requirements for energy management systems. Support commissioning and troubleshooting of control and monitoring systems.

What you can expect as Control/ SCADA Expert at Illumine-i

  • You'll design SCADA system architectures for solar, BESS, and hybrid projects including RTU/PLC selection, communication networks, and HMI configuration.
  • You'll develop control schemes for BESS charging/discharging, power factor control, volt-var optimization, and grid support functions.
  • You'll create SCADA point lists, communication protocols specifications (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850), and data mapping documents.
  • You'll design meter and telemetry systems for revenue metering and utility reporting compliance.
  • You'll develop functional specifications for energy management systems (EMS) and plant controllers.
  • You'll prepare control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and I/O schedules.
  • You'll coordinate with inverter manufacturers, BMS vendors, and SCADA suppliers on control integration requirements.
  • You'll support commissioning activities by reviewing control configurations and troubleshooting SCADA communication issues.
  • You'll review utility SCADA integration requirements and develop compliance documentation.

Essential Qualifications include

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation, or related field
  • 5-8 years of experience in control systems, SCADA, or automation engineering
  • Strong understanding of industrial control systems, PLCs, RTUs, and HMI systems
  • Knowledge of communication protocols: Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3, IEC 61850, OPC UA
  • Experience with power systems or energy sector projects strongly preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Prior experience with renewable energy or BESS control systems is highly desirable

Great to have

  • Proficiency with SCADA platforms (Ignition, Wonderware, GE iFIX, Siemens WinCC) or similar
  • Experience with PLC programming (ladder logic, structured text) - Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar
  • Understanding of industrial networking: Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, fiber optics
  • Familiarity with electrical CAD tools for control panel design (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN)
  • Knowledge of BESS components: battery management systems, power conversion systems, inverters
  • Understanding of power systems concepts and utility interconnection requirements
  • Experience with cybersecurity requirements for critical infrastructure (NERC-CIP) is a plus
