About the role

The Senior Regulatory and Compliance Advisor plays a critical role in supporting the delivery of a range of initiatives across AGL's Customer Markets strategy, through the delivery of proactive and thorough regulatory advice and compliance expertise on all facets of the retail energy market. The role will influence the business to adopt best practice approaches to regulatory compliance, while maintaining a flexible and commercial approach.

You will work closely with and influence a diverse range of stakeholders across the Customer Markets business unit; providing timely, sound, and strategic advice on all relevant initiatives, ensuring that AGL meets its regulatory compliance requirements.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing relevant, strategic and actionable regulatory advice to the business units operating in a highly complex regulatory and compliance environment.
  • Research and critically evaluate options when presented with complex regulatory problems. Provide advice and recommendations that are solution orientated and look to maximise business outcomes and supports strategic objectives.
  • Manage investigations and requests for information by regulatory bodies.
  • Delivery of AGL's external regulatory compliance reporting obligations, as well as associated internal management reporting.
  • Drive the identification, investigation and resolution of compliance incidents and issues.
  • Partnering with business stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation and monitoring of new regulatory obligations.
  • Provide informal mentoring and coaching for more junior team members, developing 'bench' strength across the Retail Regulation team.
  • Promoting an effective compliance culture within Customer Markets, through strong stakeholder networks and proactive support.
  • Enhance and deliver an ongoing education program for Customer Markets, as a preventative control for compliance. Includes delivering relevant, useable and tailored education sessions to obligation and control owners, to uplift understanding of key obligations and controls.
  • Key stakeholder providing technical energy regulation advice during external regulatory audits.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience within a regulatory or compliance role within the retail energy industry.
  • Proven ability to work with ambiguity in a complex environment.
  • Strong legal skills for interpreting regulatory impacts on business processes, systems and outcomes.
  • Possesses legal/analytical skills and a detailed understanding of regulations and how they impact AGL's activities.
  • Commercial and strategic attitude toward ensuring regulatory compliance within the business.
  • Ability to present to stakeholders of different levels on regulatory compliance/interpretation issues.
  • Experience in partnering with the business on delivery of compliance requirements.
  • Uses knowledge of regulations to help shape and implement future initiatives and strategy.
  • Aware of best practice developments in regulatory compliance and drives their implementation where appropriate.
